Amid demands by states and recognition of the logistical challenges involved in transporting millions of people back to their home states, the Centre on Friday decided to allow special trains — called Shramik Specials — to enable stranded migrants to return home
The trains scheduled to run on Saturday from the Western Railway zone, Southern Railway, South Western Railway and Central Railway zone were due to ferry at least 20,000 passengers, senior officials said.
“Trains are being planned at the request from the states. 10 trains ran today following all the standard protocols,” Railway Protection Force DG Arun Kumar said.
A total of 15 trains for different destinations will leave New Delhi on Tuesday for which bookings have begun. The special trains will run from New Delhi to Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi.
No concession will be allowed on the trains. The fares of these trains will be that of Rajdhani trains, which means all these will be all air-conditioned trains and will be available on premium fares.
IRCTC ticket booking procedure:
Step 1:
Register as an individual and log in by entering your username and password. On the "Book Your Ticket" page, provide your desired From - To station, Date of Journey and Class of travel.
Step 2:
To find train list, click on "Find trains" option and the next page will display the list of trains available for the selected route. If you wish to know the route and the timings, click on the train name. To select the train from the train list, click on the type of class available in the selected train.
Step 3:
To get the availability and fare, click on “check availability & fare” tab. It will show fare according to the type of class selected. The fare appearing will be for a single adult passenger. To book a ticket in the selected train, click on the “Book Now” button.
Step 4:
Passenger reservation page will appear. Check whether the train name, station names, class and journey date displayed at the left side of the page are same as desired by you. Enter the names of the passengers, age, gender, berth preference and food choice for each passenger. The maximum length of names should be restricted to 16 characters.
Step 5:
Enter the passenger mobile number to receive the booking and cancellation free SMS and then click on the 'Next' button. After providing correct details, click on Continue Booking button. To change any details related to Train-Class, Quota, “Replan Booking” button may be used. The ticket details, total fare (including GST & Convenience Fee) and availability of berths at the particular time will appear on the screen.
Step 6:
After checking all details, click on 'Continue Booking' button for the payment process. All payment options are grouped under specific categories (viz. Credit cards, Net Banking, Wallets and Multiple payment service etc. Select the desired payment option from the displayed Payment Gateway menus on the left side.
Step 7:
Click on the "Make Payment" button for redirection to the selected bank website. After successful payment and booking of accommodations, Ticket Confirmation Page will appear. Also, Virtual reservation message (VRM) in the form of SMS will be sent on mobile number
IRCTC: Booking Rs.16.16 Crore in few hours
According to the railway official, about 45,533 PNRs have been issued shortly after the opening of the booking of special trains. In a few hours, 82,317 passengers were booked for the next 7 days. The total value of these bookings is Rs 16,15,63,821.

On Friday, IRCTC shares closed at Rs 1241.50 and Rs 1240.85 on the NSE and BSE. At the same time, on Tuesday it reached Rs 1368.70 on NSE and BSE and Rs 1367.95 on BSE. That is, the stock rose 10 percent or up to Rs 127.
Railway service was closed all over the country since 25 March
Explain that due to the lockdown, the railways, which has stopped its service all over the country since March 25, has announced to start 15 spawn trains of ordinary passengers from May 12. Before this, some labor trains are also being run. It is believed that slowly the railway will start expanding its route. Currently, only 15 special trains are being run, their booking can only be done online on the IRCTC website.
The government had said on Sunday that bookings would only be allowed through the IRCTC website or through mobile apps. Also, though the Railways had said no tickets would be booked at reservation counters, on Monday it said some quota category tickets would be available at counters.
The Railways has said the journey experience for passengers will be completely different this time around. The special trains, starting Tuesday, will have strict social distancing regulations. Travellers will be required to reach stations 90 minutes in advance and undergo compulsory thermal screenings. Though Aarogya Setu app, launched for contact tracing and tracking movement of Covid-19 infected persons, has not been made compulsory explicitly, it is part of an advisory for passengers.
