Cash App Class Action Lawsuit
A $15 million class action settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against Cash App and its parent company Block, Inc. The lawsuit alleged that the company failed to adequately protect user data and accounts, leading to security breaches and unauthorized access.
Who is eligible?
If you had a Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, and experienced any of the following, you may be eligible to file a claim:
- Unauthorized access to your account
- Fraudulent withdrawals or transfers
What can you claim?
- Out-of-pocket losses: Up to $2,500 for expenses directly related to the security incidents, such as credit monitoring fees, overdraft fees, or late payment charges.
- Lost time: Up to $75 for time spent addressing issues related to unauthorized access or fraud (3 hours at $25 per hour).
- Transaction losses: Reimbursement for certain unreimbursed funds stolen from your account.

The deadline to file a claim is November 18, 2024.
Important notes:
- Documentation: You’ll need to provide documentation to support your claim, such as bank statements, credit reports, or police reports.
- Opt-out: You can choose to opt out of the settlement if you prefer to pursue your own legal action. The deadline to opt out is November 1, 2024.
- Objections: If you disagree with the settlement terms, you can file an objection. Objections must be postmarked by November 1, 2024.
Claiming insufficient response to two data breaches, the lawsuit accuses Cash App and its IT business owner, Block, of failing to do enough. There are also allegations that the corporation behind the P2P payment system was unresponsive to customer complaints about fraudulent transactions and that the system itself lacked robust security features.
