How the Kerala SSLC Grading System Works

The SSLC curriculum in Kerala consists of 10 subjects. Instead of percentages, the board awards grades based on a 9-point scale. Here is how the grades translate into grade points:

  • A+ (Outstanding): 9 Points (90% – 100%)
  • A (Excellent): 8 Points (80% – 89%)
  • B+ (Very Good): 7 Points (70% – 79%)
  • B (Good): 6 Points (60% – 69%)
  • C+ (Above Average): 5 Points (50% – 59%)
  • C (Average): 4 Points (40% – 49%)
  • D+ (Marginal): 3 Points (30% – 39%)
  • D (Need Improvement): 2 Points (20% – 29%)
  • E (Need Improvement): 1 Point (Below 20%)

The Formula for Calculation

To calculate your percentage manually, you add the grade points for all 10 subjects together. Since the maximum grade point for one subject is 9, the maximum total for all 10 subjects is 90.

Formula: (Total Grade Points Secured ÷ 90) × 100 = Final Percentage.

For example, if you scored an A+ in all 10 subjects, your total grade points would be 90. (90 ÷ 90) × 100 = 100%.
