Activate and Register Tableau Server: Steps to Activate the Tableau Server<\/span><\/h2>\n

Tableau Server<\/span>\u00a0requires at least one product key that both activates the server and specifies the number of license levels you can assign to users. You can access your product keys from the\u00a0Customer Portal.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

If you need to activate\u00a0Tableau Server<\/span>\u00a0on a computer that is offline, see\u00a0Activate Tableau Server Offline – Adding a License. If you need to activate additional product keys to add capacity to an existing\u00a0Tableau Server<\/span>\u00a0installation, see\u00a0Add Capacity to Tableau Server.<\/p>\n

Prerequisite<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Before proceeding with the procedures in this topic, complete the following prerequisites as outlined in\u00a0Install and Configure Tableau Server:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Install TSM<\/li>\n
  • TSM\u00a0uses port 8850. If you are running a local firewall, open port 8850.<\/li>\n
  • Configure Product Key Operations with Forward Proxy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \n
    • Use the TSM web interface<\/li>\n
    • Use the TSM CLI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      \n
        \n
      1. If the computer where you are installing Tableau Server has been configured to connect to the internet through a forward proxy, follow the procedure in the topic,\u00a0Configure Product Key Operations with Forward Proxy, before continuing.<\/li>\n
      2. Sign in to Tableau Services Manager Web UI.The account you use must have administrative privileges on the computer where TSM is installed.<\/li>\n
      3. On the\u00a0Activate<\/strong>\u00a0page, Enter or paste your product key and click\u00a0Activate Product Key<\/strong>.After your product key is activated, it appears under\u00a0Activated Product Keys<\/strong>.\n

      4. To activate another product key, enter the new product key, and then click\u00a0Activate Product Key<\/span>. After your product key is activated, it appears under\u00a0Activated Product Keys<\/span>.<\/li>\n
      5. When you\u2019re finished activating product keys, click\u00a0Next<\/span>.\n

        Note:<\/b>\u00a0If the product keys you have activated don\u2019t have the necessary capacity, such as not enough cores or only a Viewer role product key, Tableau Services Manager displays the\u00a0Insufficient licenses applied<\/span>\u00a0dialog box. Click\u00a0Activate Another Product Key<\/span>\u00a0to add another product key and increase capacity on your Tableau Server installation.<\/p>\n

        If you have a product key for Add-on license, you must activate that product key to be able to use the features included in each Add-on.
