Here\u2019s how to activate your card or create\/change your PIN<\/strong> for the New\u202fYork\u202fState\u202fOffice\u202fof\u202fTemporary\u202fand\u202fDisability\u202fAssistance<\/span> (OTDA) EBT program via ConnectEBT<\/span> (for NY):<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

    You\u2019ll receive an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card once eligible for benefits like Supplemental\u202fNutrition\u202fAssistance\u202fProgram<\/span> (SNAP) or cash assistance in New\u202fYork.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Your card must be activated and you\u2019ll need a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to use it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    There is a phone helpline: 1\u2011888\u2011328\u20116399 for NY EBT cardholders<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Once you get the card in the mail, often the PIN is mailed separately for security.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      To activate or select a PIN<\/em>, call 1\u2011888\u2011328\u20116399.<\/p>\n

        You\u2019ll be asked to enter your card number<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        Then you may be asked for last\u202f4 digits of the cardholder\u2019s Social Security Number<\/strong> (or other identifying info) or for the cardholder\u2019s birthday when required.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        Then choose a 4\u2011digit PIN. Don\u2019t use simple sequences like \u201c1234\u201d or repeating digits.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n

        After you\u2019ve set the PIN, you should be able to use the card at authorized stores and ATMs (if cash benefits apply) in New\u202fYork.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        \u26a0\ufe0f What you should not<\/strong> rely on<\/span><\/h2>\n

          This process is largely by phone<\/em> (for NY). There is no guarantee<\/strong> that you can fully activate the card online via the \u201cwww.mybenefits.ny.gov\u201d<\/a> portal alone. Some sources say activation must be done via the helpline.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

          Be sure you\u2019re using the official<\/em> numbers and portal to avoid scams.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • You cannot activate your benefits card or create a new PIN directly on the myBenefits (www.mybenefits.ny.gov)<\/b> website. The myBenefits<\/b> website is used for applying, recertifying, reporting changes, and viewing your case details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
