Gulf of America? ‘Gulf of Mexico’ will be renamed, according to Trump<\/span><\/h2>\n

On Tuesday, Donald Trump, the soon-to-be president, announced his intention to rechristen the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

A rebranding from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America is in the works. He spoke at a press conference held at his Florida Mar-a-Lago club on the Gulf of America, remarking on the beauty of the term. “And it’s appropriate.”<\/p>\n

Instead of explaining when or how he would make the change, he just said that specifics would be provided at a later date.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to change, because we do most of the work there, and it’s ours,” he said.<\/p>\n

Shortly thereafter, in a social media post, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her intention to formally propose a bill to alter the name of the waterway that extends from Mexico down the southern United States.<\/p>\n

In 2012, a lawmaker from Mississippi put forward a bill to rename the saltwater body to the Gulf of America for “official purposes within the state of Mississippi.” He joked that the law was a hoax.<\/p>\n

Why Trump chose to suggest changing the name at this time was not immediately apparent. As a “appropriate” name for the basin that approaches Cuba, he informed reporters that the Gulf of America “has a beautiful ring” to it.<\/p>\n
