While SASSA offers online services for some things, changing your banking details is not one of them. The grant isn\u2019t meant to replace other income but intended to bridge the gap in the cost of living.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Who can apply for the grant?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re the primary caregiver of a child (a parent, grandparent or anyone who\u2019s mainly responsible to look after the child) you\u2019ll need the following to qualify for a grant:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a South African citizen or have permanent residency.<\/li>\n<li>Not earn more than R61\u00a0200 a year (R5\u00a0100 a\u00a0month) if you\u2019re single. If you\u2019re married, your combined income shouldn\u2019t be above R122\u00a0400\u00a0a\u00a0year (R10\u00a0200 a\u00a0month).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re not the parent, then you\u2019ll have to provide proof that you\u2019re the child\u2019s primary caregiver. You can use an affidavit from a police official or the biological parent, a report from a social worker or a letter from the principal of the child\u2019s school.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>For the child to qualify they must:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>be under 18 years old,<\/li>\n<li>not be in the care of a state institution,<\/li>\n<li>live with the primary caregiver, who isn&#8217;t paid to look after the child.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You and the child must live in South Africa. You can\u2019t get the grant for more than 6 children who aren\u2019t your legally adopted or biological children.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>You\u2019re unable to get a grant if you\u2019re:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>being paid to look after the child,<\/li>\n<li>not the child\u2019s primary caregiver,<\/li>\n<li>someone is already getting a grant for the child,<\/li>\n<li>you represent an institution that takes care of the child.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only people whose financial situation is below a certain level can get the grant.
