If you\u2019re using an iPad, you may see Settings and select Mobile Data.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>When activating iMessage or FaceTime, you might see one of these messages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Waiting for activation.<\/li>\n<li>Activation unsuccessful.<\/li>\n<li>An error occurred during activation.<\/li>\n<li>Could not sign in, please check your network connection.<\/li>\n<li>Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"gb-header\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">If you still need help<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">1. Make sure your device has a Wi-Fi connection to the internet or a mobile data connection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"list gb-list\">\n<li class=\"gb-list_item\">\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">Find out more\u00a0if you\u2019re using router, firewall or security software\u00a0that restricts internet access.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">2. If you\u2019re trying to use FaceTime over Mobile, make sure Use Mobile Data (or Use Cellular Data) is turned on for FaceTime. Go to Settings and tap Mobile Data (or Cellular), then turn on FaceTime. If you\u2019re using an iPad, you may see Settings &gt; Mobile Data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">3. Go to Settings &gt; FaceTime and make sure FaceTime is turned on.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"list gb-list\">\n<li class=\"gb-list_item\">\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">If you see \u201cWaiting for Activation\u201d, turn FaceTime off and then on again.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"gb-list_item\">\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">If you can\u2019t see the FaceTime setting, make sure Camera and FaceTime aren\u2019t turned off in Settings &gt; Screen Time &gt; Content &amp; Privacy Restrictions &gt; Allowed Apps.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"gb-list_item\">\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">Make sure you have the correct phone number or email address listed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">4. Go to Settings &gt; General &gt; Date &amp; Time and turn on Set Automatically.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">5. Restart your device.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gb-paragraph\">6. If you see an error message when you try to activate them, follow these steps.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"sections\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>When activating iMessage or FaceTime, you may see one of these messages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Waiting for activation<\/li>\n<li>Activation unsuccessful<\/li>\n<li>An error occurred during activation<\/li>\n<li>Could not sign in. Please check your network connection.<\/li>\n<li>Unable to contact the iMessage server. Try again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What you need before you sign in<\/span><\/h2>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure you&#8217;re connected to a\u00a0mobile data\u00a0or\u00a0Wi-Fi\u00a0network.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your device is running the\u00a0latest version of iOS or iPadOS.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure\u00a0your time zone has been set correctly. Go to Settings &gt; General &gt; Date &amp; Time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using an iPhone, you&#8217;ll need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your network provider, you may be charged for this SMS.<\/p>\n<p>If a prompt appears stating: &#8220;Your network provider may charge for SMS messages used to activate FaceTime and iMessage&#8221;, tap &#8220;OK&#8221; to allow possible SMS charges.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Turn off and restart iMessage and FaceTime<\/span><\/h2>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to Settings &gt; Messages and turn off iMessage.<\/li>\n<li>Go to Settings &gt; FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.<\/li>\n<li>Restart\u00a0your\u00a0iPhone.<\/li>\n<li>Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Use an email address to sign in to Messages or FaceTime instead<\/span><\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>You can also\u00a0use your email address with iMessage and FaceTime. Sign in to your\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/appleid.apple.com\/\">Apple ID account page<\/a>\u00a0and review all of the email addresses you have on file in your account, including the one you&#8217;re trying to verify. If the email address is incorrect,\u00a0you can update it.
