Its purpose is to help you with immediate costs if you\u2019ve been affected by one or more of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the disaster caused major damage to your home or a major asset or assets that you own at your home<\/li>\n<li>you were seriously injured<\/li>\n<li>you\u2019re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can choose to get this payment in 2 parts.<\/p>\n<p>If you lost income as a direct result of this disaster, you may also be eligible for Disaster Recovery Allowance. If you\u2019re eligible, you can get both AGDRP and\u00a0Disaster Recovery Allowance.<\/p>\n<div id=\"lit-content-hero\" class=\"mb-8\">\n<h1 id=\"lit-page-title\" class=\"heading-1 mb-6\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Who can get it<\/span><\/h1>\n<div id=\"lit-short-description\">\n<p class=\"subtitle\">You must meet eligibility rules to get Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"body constrained lit-node\">To get this payment, you must meet all of the following. You&#8217;re:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an\u00a0Australian resident\u00a0or meet\u00a0other residence rules<\/li>\n<li>16 or older, or under 16 and getting an\u00a0eligible payment\u00a0at the time of this disaster<\/li>\n<li>seriously affected in a\u00a0declared suburb.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Seriously affected means that you or an\u00a0eligible child you care for\u00a0must have experienced one or more of the following because of the declared disaster:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>major damage\u00a0to your\u00a0principal place of residence<\/li>\n<li>major damage to a\u00a0major asse<a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicesaustralia.gov.au\/who-can-get-se-qld-severe-storms-and-flooding-dec-2023-to-jan-2024-australian-government-disaster?context=65629#majorasset\" data-lit-original-text=\"major asset\">t<\/a>\u00a0or assets that you own at your principal place of residence<\/li>\n<li>you were seriously injured<\/li>\n<li>you&#8217;re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can only get AGDRP once for this disaster.<\/p>\n<div id=\"lit-content-hero\" class=\"mb-8\">\n<h2 id=\"lit-page-title\" class=\"heading-1 mb-6\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How much you can get<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"lit-short-description\">\n<p class=\"subtitle\">The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is a lump sum payment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"body constrained lit-node\">If you\u2019re eligible you\u2019ll get:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$1,000 per adult<\/li>\n<li>$400 for each child younger than 16.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This payment is not taxable and doesn\u2019t need to be included in your tax return.<\/p>\n<div id=\"lit-content-hero\" class=\"mb-8\">\n<h1 id=\"lit-page-title\" class=\"heading-1 mb-6\">How to claim<\/h1>\n<div id=\"lit-short-description\">\n<p class=\"subtitle\">There are 3 steps to claim Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"body constrained lit-node\">Before you start claiming, check\u00a0who can get it.When claiming, you need to make sure the information you give us is true and correct. You must base your claim on your actual circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a Centrelink online account that\u2019s linked to myGov, sign in and start your claim now.<\/p>\n<p>Sign in to myGov<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have these set up, you\u2019ll need to follow these steps.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Steps to claim Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"processlist-content\">\n<h3>1. Get ready to claim<\/h3>\n<p>You can claim online.<\/p>\n<p>If you need help claiming you can call us on the\u00a0Emergency information line. If you need an interpreter, let us know and we\u2019ll arrange one for you.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to speak to someone in your language, call our\u00a0Multilingual Phone Service.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian, you can also call and speak to our\u00a0Indigenous call centre\u00a0for help.<\/p>\n<p>You can have someone deal with us on your behalf. This is called a\u00a0correspondence nominee. They can call the Emergency information line to submit a claim for you. They cannot submit an online claim on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re a member of a couple you can both claim this payment. You and your partner must make separate claims.<\/p>\n<p>You can claim if you\u2019re the immediate family member of an Australian citizen or resident who died or is missing. But, you can\u2019t claim on behalf of a person who has died, or their estate.<\/p>\n<p>To claim online, you need a Centrelink online account linked to myGov.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a myGov Link Centrelink to your myGov account<\/h3>\n<p>Sign into myGov and select\u00a0<strong>View and link services<\/strong>, then select\u00a0<strong>Centrelink<\/strong>\u00a0to link it to your myGov account. How you do this will depend on if you\u2019ve claimed a payment from us before.<\/p>\n<h4>If you\u2019ve claimed a payment before<\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019ve claimed a payment before, you can use your\u00a0Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN)\u00a0to link Centrelink to myGov. You\u2019ll also need to answer some personal questions.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t know your CRN or can&#8217;t answer the personal questions using your CRN, select\u00a0<strong>No<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>Do you have or know your CRN?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to\u00a0prove your identity online, using\u00a0myGov. Follow the same instructions for \u2018If you haven\u2019t claimed a payment before\u2019.<\/p>\n<h4>If you haven\u2019t claimed a payment before<\/h4>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t claimed a payment from us before, you\u2019ll need to\u00a0prove your identity online\u00a0using\u00a0myGov.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to enter some personal information and details from 2\u00a0acceptable identity documents and your Medicare card. Once you prove your identity, we\u2019ll link Centrelink to your myGov account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"processlist-content\">\n<h3>3. Make your claim<\/h3>\n<p>Now your accounts are set up, sign in and start your claim.<\/p>\n<p>Then follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select Centrelink.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Payments and claims<\/strong>\u00a0from the menu, then\u00a0<strong>Claims<\/strong>, then\u00a0<strong>Make a claim<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Help in an emergency<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Apply for Disaster Recovery Payment<\/strong>\u00a0and answer the eligibility and claim questions.<\/li>\n<li>Submit your claim.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Our Centrelink online account guide on how to\u00a0claim the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment will step you through this process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"processlist-content\">\n<h3>4. After you claim<\/h3>\n<p>We\u2019ll let you know if you\u2019ve successfully submitted your claim.<\/p>\n<p>To track the progress of your application online, sign in to myGov and select\u00a0<strong>Make a claim or view claim status<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use the\u00a0Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll try to process your claim as quickly as possible. We may call you to ask for more information.
