You\u2019ll get it if you\u2019re on the maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"lit-content-hero\" class=\"mb-8\">\n<div id=\"lit-short-description\">\n<p class=\"text-4xl subtitle\">A Health Care Card entitles you to cheaper prescription medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<article class=\"body constrained lit-node\">You may be eligible for other concessions. Some of these concessions may be available for a dependent child.<\/article>\n<h2 id=\"a1\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Eligibility<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can get a Health Care card for up to one year if you get any of the following payments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ABSTUDY Living Allowance<\/li>\n<li>Austudy<\/li>\n<li>JobSeeker Payment<\/li>\n<li>Parenting Payment\u00a0partnered<\/li>\n<li>Special Benefit<\/li>\n<li>Youth Allowance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can also get a card for up to one year if you get any of the following payments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carer Allowance\u00a0for a child younger than 16 &#8211; the card is for the child in your care only<\/li>\n<li>Carer Payment\u00a0for short term or irregular care less than 6 months<\/li>\n<li>the maximum rate of\u00a0Family Tax Benefit Part A<\/li>\n<li>Mobility Allowance\u00a0if you\u2019re not getting\u00a0Disability Support Pension.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also live in Australia and meet the residence rules of that payment.<\/p>\n<p>If you get\u00a0Carer Payment, your card is valid for a period of 26 weeks. Your card can display:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>your first name and family name<\/li>\n<li>your\u00a0Customer Reference Number (CRN)<\/li>\n<li>your home address<\/li>\n<li>the date your concession entitlement begins<\/li>\n<li>the date it expires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Depending on the card you have, it will also show the:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>first name and family name of your partner, if you have one<\/li>\n<li>first name of any dependent children.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can ask us not to have your address or partner\u2019s details printed on your card.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"a2\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Types of cards<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The type of concession or health care card you can get depends on your situation.<\/p>\n<p>You can use your concession or health care card to get cheaper medicines under the\u00a0Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. You may also use your concession card if your doctor bulk bills for visits.<\/p>\n<h3>Commonwealth Seniors Health Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get a\u00a0Commonwealth Seniors Health Card\u00a0if you meet all of the following. You:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have reached Age Pension age<\/li>\n<li>are an Australian resident and live in Australia or you hold a special category visa<\/li>\n<li>can\u2019t get a payment from Services Australia or the Department of Veterans\u2019 Affairs<\/li>\n<li>meet the income test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your card is valid for one year. If you remain eligible, you don\u2019t need to do anything. Services Australia send you a new card each year in August.<\/p>\n<h3>Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get an\u00a0Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card\u00a0if you meet all of the following. You:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>are between 16 and 25<\/li>\n<li>are a full time student<\/li>\n<li>are an Australian resident and live in Australia or you hold a special category visa<\/li>\n<li>had a Carer Allowance Health Care Card on the day before you turned 16.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your card is valid for one year. You must renew the card each year.<\/p>\n<h3>Foster Child Health Care Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get a\u00a0Foster Child Health Care Card\u00a0if you\u2019re a foster carer or care for someone else\u2019s child. You must also meet both of these conditions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be an Australian resident and live in Australia<\/li>\n<li>hold a permanent visa or a special category visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your foster child must live with you as long as you hold this card.<\/p>\n<p>Your card is valid for one year. If you remain eligible, you don\u2019t need to do anything. Services Australia send you a new card each year when the current one expires.<\/p>\n<h3>Health Care Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get a\u00a0Health Care Card\u00a0if you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>live in Australia<\/li>\n<li>get some payments or supplements from Services Australia<\/li>\n<li>meet the age rules of the payment you get.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Payments or supplements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ABSTUDY Living Allowance<\/li>\n<li>Austudy<\/li>\n<li>Carer Allowance\u00a0if you care for a child under 16 &#8211; the card is for the child in your care<\/li>\n<li>Carer Payment\u00a0for short term care under 6 months<\/li>\n<li>Family Tax Benefit Part A\u00a0at the maximum rate<\/li>\n<li>Farm Household Allowance<\/li>\n<li>JobSeeker Payment<\/li>\n<li>Mobility Allowance\u00a0if you don\u2019t get Disability Support Pension<\/li>\n<li>Parenting Payment\u00a0partnered<\/li>\n<li>Special Benefit<\/li>\n<li>Youth Allowance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your card is valid for one year. Services Australia send you a new card when the current one expires.<\/p>\n<h3>Low Income Health Care Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get a\u00a0Low Income Health Care Card\u00a0if you\u2019re either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>19 or older<\/li>\n<li>younger than 19 and are independent<\/li>\n<li>younger than 19 and eligible for Family Tax Benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must be an Australian resident and live in Australia, or hold one of the following visas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>permanent residence visa holder<\/li>\n<li>Special Category visa<\/li>\n<li>partner provisional visa subclass<\/li>\n<li>temporary protection visa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You must also meet an income test.<\/p>\n<p>Your card is valid for one year. You must renew your card each year.<\/p>\n<h3>Pensioner Concession Card<\/h3>\n<p>You can get a\u00a0Pensioner Concession Card\u00a0if you get:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Age Pension<\/li>\n<li>Carer Payment<\/li>\n<li>Disability Support Pension<\/li>\n<li>JobSeeker Payment\u00a0or\u00a0Youth Allowance\u00a0&#8211; you must be single and caring for a dependent child while you\u2019re looking for work<\/li>\n<li>Parenting Payment\u00a0single.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019re also eligible if you\u2019re 60 or older and for more than 9 months have been getting one of these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>JobSeeker Payment<\/li>\n<li>Parenting Payment\u00a0partnered<\/li>\n<li>Special Benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or, you have a partial capacity to work and you get one of these payments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>JobSeeker Payment<\/li>\n<li>Parenting Payment\u00a0partnered<\/li>\n<li>Youth Allowance\u00a0as a job seeker.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your card is valid for 2 years. If you remain eligible for the pension or allowance you don\u2019t need to do anything.
