Pound Key Activation Code for Microsoft Verification<\/span><\/h1>\n

You’ll receive a phone call from Microsoft, asking you press the pound (#) sign on your office phone to verify your identity. You can set up your office phone to act as your two-factor verification method. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Combined Registration users won’t see an option to use an extension with the\u00a0Office phone\u00a0option.<\/p>\n

Set up your office phone number as your verification method<\/span><\/h2>\n

1. On the Additional security verification<\/b>\u00a0page, select\u00a0Office phone\u00a0from the\u00a0Step 1: How should we contact you\u00a0<\/b>area, select your country or region from the drop-down list, type your office phone number, and then type your extension, if you have one.<\/p>\n

\"Set<\/p>\n

2. In Step 2<\/b>, you’ll receive a phone call from Microsoft, asking you press the pound (#) sign on your office phone to verify your identity.<\/p>\n

3. Copy the app password from the Step 3: Keep using your existing applications<\/b>\u00a0area\u00a0and store it somewhere safe.<\/p>\n

Note: <\/b>You only need to use app passwords if you’re continuing to use older apps that don’t support two-factor verification.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

4. Select Done<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Set up an authenticator app as a two-step verification method<\/span><\/h2>\n

You can set up an authenticator app to send a notification to your mobile device or to send you a verification code as your security verification method. You aren’t required to use the Microsoft Authenticator app, and you can select a different app during the set up process. However, this article uses the Microsoft Authenticator app.<\/p>\n

Set up the Microsoft Authenticator app to send notifications<\/span><\/h2>\n

  1. On the\u00a0Additional security verification page, select\u00a0Mobile app<\/b>\u00a0from the\u00a0Step 1: How should we contact you<\/b>\u00a0area.<\/li>\n
  2. Select\u00a0Receive notifications for verification<\/b>\u00a0from the\u00a0How do you want to use the mobile app<\/b>\u00a0area, and then select\u00a0Set up<\/b>.\n

  3. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app, select\u00a0Add account<\/b>\u00a0from the\u00a0Customize and control\u00a0icon in the upper-right, and then select\u00a0Work or school account<\/b>.\n

    Note:\u00a0<\/b>If you receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). select\u00a0Allow\u00a0<\/b>so the authenticator app can access your camera to take a picture of the QR code in the next step. If you don’t allow the camera, you can still set up the authenticator app as described in\u00a0Manually add an account to the app<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n

  4. Use your device’s camera to scan the QR code from the\u00a0Configure mobile app<\/b>\u00a0screen on your computer, and then choose\u00a0Next<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  5. Return to your computer and the\u00a0Additional security verification<\/b>\u00a0page, make sure you get the message that says your configuration was successful, and then select\u00a0Next<\/b>.\u00a0The authenticator app will send a notification to your mobile device as a test.\n

  6. On your mobile device, select\u00a0Approve<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  7. On your computer, add your mobile device phone number to the\u00a0Step 3: In case you lose access to the mobile app<\/b>\u00a0area, and then select\u00a0Next<\/b>. Microsoft recommends adding your mobile device phone number to act as a backup if you’re unable to access or use the mobile app for any reason.<\/li>\n
  8. From the\u00a0Step 4: Keep using your existing applications<\/b>\u00a0area, copy the provided app password and paste it somewhere safe.\n
