The languages you can use to start using interpreter mode\u00a0depend on your device.\u00a0After you\u2019ve started interpreter mode, you can ask the Google Assistant to\u00a0translate between more languages.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Devices you can use<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>All Google Home speakers<\/li>\n<li>Some speakers with Google Assistant built-in<\/li>\n<li>All Smart Displays<\/li>\n<li>Smart Clocks<\/li>\n<li>Mobile phones and tablets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Translate a conversation<\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Say &#8220;Hey Google&#8230;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Say a command, like:\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230;Be my Italian interpreter&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230;Interpret from Polish to Dutch&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230;Chinese interpreter&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;&#8230;Turn on interpreter mode&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you haven\u2019t identified languages, choose which languages you want to use.<\/li>\n<li>When you hear the tone, start speaking in either language. You don\u2019t have to alternate between languages for interpreter mode to work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On a Smart Display, you\u2019ll both see and hear the translated conversation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To stop using interpreter mode,<\/strong>\u00a0say a command like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Stop&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Quit&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Exit&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On a Smart Display, you can also swipe from left to right to stop interpreter mode.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Fix problems with interpreter mode<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><em>Step 1: Check which command you\u2019re using<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Make sure you\u00a0use one of the commands listed above\u00a0to start interpreter mode.<\/p>\n<p>These commands won\u2019t start interpreter mode:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speak [language].<\/li>\n<li>Can you speak [language]?<\/li>\n<li>Translate [language].<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><em>Step 2: Check your device<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Interpreter mode won\u2019t work with some speakers that aren\u2019t made by Google. If you speak before the tone, your device may not hear everything you say.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 2: Make sure the device can hear you<\/h4>\n<p>Stay close to your device and limit the number of other conversations near you.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"zippy-container\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a class=\"zippy index5 goog-zippy-expanded\" style=\"color: #800000;\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" data-sc-zippy-id=\"interpreter-doesnt-translate-what-you-say\" aria-expanded=\"true\" data-stats-ve=\"2\" data-stats-imp=\"\" data-stats-idx=\"5,6\" data-stats-ignore=\"\">Interpreter doesn\u2019t translate what you say<\/a><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"zippy-overflow\">\n<div class=\"zippy-content\">\n<h4>Step 1: Speak clearly<\/h4>\n<p>Articulate the words and limit extra noise so your device can determine which language you\u2019re speaking.<\/p>\n<h4>Step 2: Check your pronunciation<\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re translating between two languages that share words, your device may not be able to tell which language you\u2019re speaking.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you want to translate the word &#8220;bueno&#8221; from Spanish to English but speak with an English accent, your device might translate from English to Spanish instead.
