Whether you rent or own your home, LIHEAP offers financial help to limited-income households to pay heat and electric bills.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">New Account Number. New Look!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Your account number will change and, if you currently pay your ComEd bill directly through a bank or other financial institution, you will need to update your account number in early 2024 to ensure your payments are applied to your account.<\/p>\n<p>Your bill will also have a new look, the colors and logo will be revised to align with recent brand updates.<\/p>\n<p>Business customer bills will be redesigned to now look more like a residential customer\u2019s energy bill. Gather the required documentation<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"horizontal-block-space\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\" data-testid=\"rich-text-block\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\" data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Documents will be submitted to and reviewed by local Community Action Agencies.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proof of\u00a0<strong>gross income<\/strong>\u00a0from all household members for the 30-day period prior to the date of application.<\/li>\n<li>Copies of\u00a0<strong>current heat and electric bills<\/strong>\u00a0issued within the last 30 days (if energy directly paid for).<\/li>\n<li>Copy of\u00a0<strong>rental agreement<\/strong>\u00a0(if renting) showing that utilities are included, the monthly rental amount and landlord contact information.<\/li>\n<li>Proof of\u00a0<strong>Social Security Numbers or ITIN<\/strong>\u00a0for all household members. Residents without ITIN or SSN can still apply and your Community Action Agency (CAA) will assist you in the application process.<\/li>\n<li>Proof the\u00a0<strong>household received TANF or other benefits<\/strong>, such as Medical Eligibility or SNAP, if receiving assistance from the Illinois Department of Human Services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"horizontal-block-space\">\n<h3 class=\"subtitle\">2. Contact your Community Action Agency<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"horizontal-block-space\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\" data-testid=\"rich-text-block\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\" data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<p>To apply for assistance, you can initiate the LIHEAP application process by going to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dceo.illinois.gov\/communityservices\/homeweatherization\/communityactionagencies\/helpillinoisfamilies.html\" data-di-id=\"di-id-4c2b4c95-2886b6f4\">helpillinoisfamilies.com<\/a>\u00a0and complete a Request for Services Form or contact your local Community Action Agency to make an appointment to apply. Community Action Agencies are local private and public nonprofit organizations that offer a range of services, including utility bill assistance, to support limited-income individuals and families. Your Community Action Agency will determine which program provides the best benefit.<\/p>\n<div class=\"horizontal-block-space\">\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How long does it take?<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"horizontal-block-space\">\n<div class=\"wrapper\" data-testid=\"rich-text-block\">\n<div class=\"rich-text\" data-testid=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Average response time from the CAA is within 30 business days of completing and submitting your application.
