These organizations must attempt to notify you by mail and publish the information in newspapers. New York State has $18.4 billion in unclaimed money<\/p>\n<p>2. More than 49 million account records remain unclaimed<\/p>\n<p>3. Every day we return over $1.5 million to individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, and municipalities<\/p>\n<p>4. $406 million funds paid; 690,000 claims processed (4\/22-3\/23)<\/p>\n<p>5. Most claims can be submitted online (osc.state.ny.us\/unclaimed-funds)<\/p>\n<p>6. More than 10 million searches conducted annually<\/p>\n<p>7. No fee to reclaim funds<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 Interest is paid for five years on interest bearing accounts\u2014currently it\u2019s 5%<\/p>\n<p>9. 70% of claims are less than $100<\/p>\n<p>10. A New York State resident received $5.9 million from a stock claim<\/p>\n<p>11. Largest amount still unclaimed is approximately $9.2 million for an estate<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Avoid Unclaimed Money Scams<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Beware of people who pretend to be the government and offer to send you unclaimed money in exchange for a fee or the exchange of confidential personal information. This practice is called phishing \u2013\u00a0a criminal activity using various techniques to trick you into providing personal or financial information through an email request or through a link to a fraudulent Web site.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How much is my claim?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To protect your privacy and prevent fraud, we can\u2019t tell you the amount of your claim until we receive and confirm your proof of ownership. Once ownership is confirmed, you will receive a letter with the account details and amount of claim. Note that all items that appear online are at least $20 or one share of stock.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What is the status of my claim?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you have your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osc.state.ny.us\/unclaimed-funds\/claimants\/search-tips#statusearch\">confirmation number<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.osc.state.ny.us\/unclaimed-funds\/claimants\/search-tips#statusearch\">claim reference number<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>check your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ouf.osc.state.ny.us\/ouf\/ccs\">claim status<\/a>\u00a0online, or<\/li>\n<li>call 800-221-9311.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Where do I find my claim reference or confirmation number?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you submitted your claim:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Online<\/strong>, you would have received an email from us that included your confirmation number. Check your junk or spam folder if you can\u2019t find it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By mail<\/strong>, you would have received an acknowledgement letter within 30 days. Claims for deceased owners usually take four to six weeks from the date you upload the requested documents.<\/li>\n<li>Mailed claims may take up to 3-4 months for us to review your claim and mail payment.
