Here, you can log into your Wireless Gateway to customize your settings like usernames, passwords, parental controls, and network settings including your firewall and open\/closed ports. If you leave your wireless network unprotected, other people can use your Internet connection, access files on your computers, and even find out private information like passwords and credit card numbers.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcetoc_1ellrm80p1t\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Log in to the Admin Tool<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>1. With a laptop, phone, or tablet that\u2019s connected to your network, open a web browser and go to the Admin Tool at <a href=\"http:\/\/10.0.0.1\/\">http:\/\/10.0.0.1<\/a>. If you\u2019ve already changed your Admin Tool ID and password, log in with your information. Then go to the steps to\u00a0change your network name and password.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro tip:\u00a0<\/strong>This username and password aren\u2019t the same as your WiFi name and password.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t changed the username and password, log in with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Username:<\/strong>\u00a0admin<\/li>\n<li><strong>Password:<\/strong>\u00a0passwordIf you changed your ID or password but don&#8217;t remember it, you can do a\u00a0factory reset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. However, the steps are the same, so you can still follow along.<\/p>\n<p>3. Once you log in, the page asks you to set up a new ID and password for the Admin Tool. You\u2019ll do this first and change your network name and password after.<\/p>\n<p>4. Type your new password again in the <strong>Re-enter New Password\u00a0<\/strong>field. The next time you need to use the Admin Tool, log in with this new ID and password.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcetoc_1ellrm80p1u\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Change Your WiFi Network Name and Password<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Connect your laptop, phone, or tablet directly to your Gateway with hard-wired\/Ethernet cable or connect wirelessly to your in-home WiFi network (<strong>not\u00a0<\/strong>the &#8220;xfinitywifi&#8221; network).<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t changed your WiFi network name and password before, look for the default network name and password on the label on the side or bottom of your Wireless Gateway:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 166px; width: 300px;\" src=\"\/\/secure.xfinity.com\/anon.comcastonline2\/support\/help\/faqs\/wireless_gateway\/HOW6361AB11142014a.png\" alt=\"Network SSID and password on the label on the bottom panel of an XFINITY wireless gateway.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, if you want to change it:<\/p>\n<p>1. Log in to the Admin Tool at <a href=\"http:\/\/10.0.0.1\">http:\/\/10.0.0.1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2. Go to the left-hand menu, and pick <strong>Gateway<\/strong>, then\u00a0<strong>Connection<\/strong>, and then\u00a0<strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>3. Under <strong>Private Wi-Fi Network<\/strong>, you&#8217;ll see the\u00a0<strong>Name\u00a0<\/strong>(SSID) of your WiFi network. Make a note of it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Edit\u00a0<\/strong>on the right to change your network name.<\/li>\n<li>The option you see depends on your Gateway model. If you see two network names (one for the 2.4 GHz and one for the 5GHz band), click\u00a0<strong>Edit\u00a0<\/strong>on each one and enter a new name. (For best results, enter the same name for both.)<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"height: 97px; width: 450px;\" src=\"\/\/secure.xfinity.com\/anon.comcastonline2\/support\/help\/faqs\/networking\/HOW6347_04152019_03.png\" alt=\"Click EDIT.\" \/><\/li>\n<li>If you don\u2019t see these options, you may need to change your WiFi network name a different way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. To see your network password, check the box next to <strong>Show Network Password<\/strong>. All set! Now that you have your WiFi network name and password, you can connect your phone, laptop, tablet, and any other device to your network. You&#8217;ll need to sign back into your WiFi network on each device with your new network name and password.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcetoc_1ellrm80p1v\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Access the Admin Tool in the Xfinity My Account App<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>1. Make sure you&#8217;re accessing the Xfinity My Account app from your home network.<\/p>\n<p>2. Open the app and sign in.<\/p>\n<p>3. Go to<strong>\u00a0Internet &gt; Change WiFi Settings &gt; Other Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>4. If you haven&#8217;t set a username and password yet, enter &#8216;admin&#8217; and &#8216;password.&#8217; Otherwise, use the ones you set.<\/p>\n<p>5. Tap <strong>Go to Admin Tool<\/strong>, then\u00a0<strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re signed in, you can change your settings.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xfinity.com\/support\/internet\/securing-wireless-gateway-network\/\">using the admin tool for network security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"mcetoc_1ellrm80p20\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tips for Resetting Your Gateway<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t remember your network name and password and can&#8217;t get into the Admin Tool, you can reset your Gateway to its factory default settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0You should\u00a0<strong>only\u00a0<\/strong>do this if all the other options haven&#8217;t worked.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Unplug your Gateway&#8217;s power.<\/li>\n<li>Press and hold the\u00a0<strong>Reset\u00a0<\/strong>button.<\/li>\n<li>Keep pressing the button and plug the Gateway back in.<\/li>\n<li>Hold the button for another 30 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Wait for your Gateway to restart.<\/li>\n<li>Log in with the password on your Gateway&#8217;s label.<\/li>\n<li>Change your name and password to something easy to remember.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Any devices connected to the WiFi (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.) will be disconnected.
