For cards that have two names embossed, the cardholder shown first must call to activate the card. <\/strong><strong>Sign the back of your Middle Class Tax Refund Debit Card<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"88\">To activate your <strong data-start=\"17\" data-end=\"67\">California Middle Class Tax Refund (MCTR) card<\/strong>, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"90\" data-end=\"149\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1. <strong data-start=\"97\" data-end=\"149\">Locate Your Card and the Activation Instructions<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"338\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"153\" data-end=\"254\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"155\" data-end=\"254\">You should have received your <strong data-start=\"185\" data-end=\"204\">MCTR debit card<\/strong> in the mail along with an <strong data-start=\"231\" data-end=\"253\">instruction letter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"258\" data-end=\"338\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"260\" data-end=\"338\">The letter will provide details on how to activate the card and how to use it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"340\" data-end=\"377\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2. <strong data-start=\"347\" data-end=\"377\">Call the Activation Number<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"381\" data-end=\"625\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"381\" data-end=\"543\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"383\" data-end=\"543\">To activate the card, you will need to call the <strong data-start=\"431\" data-end=\"458\">activation phone number<\/strong>. The number should be provided in the instructions you received along with the card.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"625\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"549\" data-end=\"625\">Typically, the activation phone number for MCTR cards is <strong data-start=\"606\" data-end=\"624\">1-800-240-0223<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"627\" data-end=\"663\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3. <strong data-start=\"634\" data-end=\"663\">Provide Your Card Details<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"667\" data-end=\"866\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"667\" data-end=\"801\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"801\">When you call, you&#8217;ll be asked to <strong data-start=\"703\" data-end=\"712\">enter<\/strong> your <strong data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"733\">card number<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"755\">security code<\/strong> (the 3-digit number on the back of the card).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"866\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"866\">Follow the instructions to complete the activation process.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"924\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">4. <strong data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"924\">Create a PIN (Personal Identification Number)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1162\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1024\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"1024\">After entering your card details, you&#8217;ll likely be prompted to <strong data-start=\"993\" data-end=\"1009\">create a PIN<\/strong> for your card.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1162\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1030\" data-end=\"1162\">The PIN is used for making in-store purchases and withdrawing cash from ATMs. Choose a PIN you can remember, but ensure it&#8217;s secure.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1198\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">5. <strong data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1198\">Complete the Activation<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1388\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1388\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1388\">Once you\u2019ve completed the process, your card should be activated and ready for use. You will receive your payment by direct deposit if you filed your 2020 return electronically and indicated direct deposit for your tax refund. Otherwise, you will receive your payment by MCTR prepaid debit card. Taxpayers receiving payment by the MCTR prepaid debit card include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taxpayers who filed a paper return<\/li>\n<li>Taxpayers who received their tax refund by check regardless of filing method<\/li>\n<li>Taxpayers who had a balance due for their 2020 tax return<\/li>\n<li>Taxpayers who received their Golden State Stimulus I and\/or II payment(s) by check<\/li>\n<li>Taxpayers who received an advanced refund from their tax service provider, or paid their tax preparer fees using their tax refund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"styles__Question-sc-1owr0dz-1 kKeWnE\">\n<h2 class=\"styles__Layout-sc-1owr0dz-0 gqTCNl\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong class=\"styles__Title-sc-1owr0dz-2 ZLOvl\">When will I receive my MCTR Card?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"styles__Answer-sc-1owr0dz-4 cTOBzr\">\n<div>MCTR debit cards will begin going out to qualified recipients by the end of October 2022 and conclude by the end of January 2023. For cards that have two names embossed, the cardholder shown first must call to activate the card.<\/p>\n<p>Your MCTR Card will arrive in a white envelope that prominently displays the California state seal and includes \u201cCalifornia Middle Class Tax Refund\u201d in the return address. The envelope also states that it is \u201cNot a bill or advertisement.<\/p>\n<p>Important information about your Middle Class Tax Refund.\u201d The Visa\u00ae name will appear on the front of the Card; the back of the Card has the name of the issuing bank, My Banking Direct, a service of New York Community Bank.
