Every Vocabulary Jam has a unique a 6-digit Jam Code given to you by the host. Once you have your Jam Code go to www.vocabulary.com\/jam\u00a0to type it in and join the game. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Vocabulary Jam is an interactive competition, where teams compete in real-time! You can start a Jam in your classroom, among friends, or with a whole auditorium. We also host\u00a0weekly Vocabulary Jams<\/a>\u00a0that are open to everyone! Here\u2019s how to play a Jam for yourself.<\/p>\n

Get started by finding your Jam Code<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Every Vocabulary Jam has a unique a 6-digit Jam Code given to you by the host. Once you have your Jam Code go to\u00a0Vocab.com\/jam<\/a>\u00a0to type it in and join the game. Part of a class? Your teacher can send you a notification that will let you jump right into their Jam. Just click the notification that appears on the top right while you’re logged in.<\/p>\n

Log in to make the most of your Jam time<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

You don’t have to have a Vocabulary.com account to join a Jam, but logging in will let you keep the points you win and makes adding your trouble words to your learning program a snap. So we definitely\u00a0recommend logging in before playing!<\/p>\n

Choose a team<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

If the host has allowed players to choose their own teams, the next step will be to select the team you’d like to play for. Jams can consist of 2-4 teams and each one gets their own unique color. The host has the ability to move players from one team or another or to remove them from the game entirely to keep things even.<\/p>\n

3, 2, 1, Let’s Jam!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

When the host begins the Jam, everyone will see a countdown to the first question. By default, each question is timed. You’ll see a timer above the question begin to tick down the moment it appears, and to the right of the timer the potential number of points you can earn for answering right now. The sooner you answer the questions the more points you can earn, but be careful! Get the question wrong and half of those potential points are taken away from your team instead.\u00a0If you don\u2019t know the answer, it\u2019s better not to guess, or at least to wait a little until the question is worth fewer points. Guessing before fully reading the question will lose your team a lot of points.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget about the other players<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

As everyone answers, you’ll see their names lock in\u00a0on the right side of the screen. Once the timer runs out, or after everyone has given an answer, the correct answer will be revealed and you can see how everyone did on the team cards near the bottom of the page. After the points are tallied you’ll see the teams shuffle around to indicate who in the lead. You’ll always see them ranked from left to right by the highest score.<\/p>\n

Learn the words that gave you trouble to do even better next time!<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

At the end of the Jam, you’ll see the winning team and all the words you struggled with. You can click the green “add” button to add these words to your learning program. Once added, you can work on them by playing\u00a0The Challenge<\/a>\u00a0until you achieve mastery! The more words you learn, the better you’ll do in the next Jam!<\/p>\n

How to join a class on Vocabulary.com<\/span><\/h2>\n

To join your teacher’s class, you will need an invitation from your teacher.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Get an invitation:<\/strong>\u00a0Ask your teacher to send you an invite via email, or to print you out a handout with the class invite URL. \u00a0The class invitation is just a special URL that you can paste or type into your browser.<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Once you\u2019ve received the link from your teacher, e<\/span>ither click or type the class invitation URL into your browser.\u00a0Class invitation URLs are in the form of http:\/\/www.vocabulary.com\/join\/### (replace ### with the code unique to your class). You must type in the full URL to join the class.<\/li>\n
  • If you are not currently logged in, you\u2019ll be asked to either sign in\u00a0or to register for a free student account.<\/li>\n
  • Once logged in, you\u2019ll see a yellow bar at the top of the screen saying you have joined the class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Or request to join the class:<\/strong>\u00a0If you know your public class page URL, and you see a green Ask to Join This Class button at the top-right of your screen, you can click it to request to join the class.<\/p>\n

    After clicking on the link to join the class, your teacher will be notified that you have requested access.<\/p>\n

    We suggest that you let your teacher know you have requested access so they can approve your\u00a0access the next time they log in.<\/p>\n

    Leaving a class<\/span><\/h2>\n

    If you want to leave a class that you accidentally joined, look for the Leave this Class button near the top-right of the class page. \u00a0When you click the button, you will no longer be in the class.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Be careful, if you leave a class and you don’t still have your class invitation, you will have to ask your teacher for a new invitation to join the class.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
