You might see a blue screen with a message that your device ran into a problem and needs to restart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On this page,\u00a0we\u2019ll take you through a series of troubleshooting steps\u00a0to\u00a0try and help you figure out the cause of the blue screen error and how to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p>The steps in this article are intended to help troubleshoot common stop error codes, such as the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED<\/li>\n<li>SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED<\/li>\n<li>IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL<\/li>\n<li>VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED<\/li>\n<li>PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA<\/li>\n<li>SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION<\/li>\n<li>DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Though the steps on this page might look complicated at first glance, just follow them in order, step-by-step, and we\u2019ll try to get you back on track.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Step\u00a01:\u00a0When did you get the error?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"PaneHeading-icon-container\">Error after an update is installed<\/h3>\n<div class=\"Pane-content-container\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"PaneContent\">\n<section class=\"ocpIntroduction\">Some blue screen errors might occur after a specific update is installed on your device.\u00a0If you get a blue screen error after an update, try\u202fto fix\u202fthe error by uninstalling recent updates.<\/p>\n<p>To do this,\u00a0you&#8217;ll need to sign in to Windows using safe mode. Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers and allows you to perform troubleshooting steps.<\/p>\n<h3>Before you enter safe mode, you need to enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE ). The preferred option is to select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">5<\/b>\u00a0or press\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">F5<\/b>\u00a0for Safe Mode with Networking.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once your device is in safe mode, follow these steps to uninstall recent update in Control Panel:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>In the search box on the taskbar, type\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">control panel<\/b>, and then select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Control Panel\u00a0<\/b>from the list of results.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Uninstall a program<\/b>\u00a0under\u00a0<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Programs<\/b>.
