To help protect your account, you may need to prove it\u2019s you when you\u00a0sign in or try to complete sensitive actions like:<\/p>\n

  • Change your password<\/li>\n
  • View saved passwords<\/li>\n
  • Turn on 2-Step Verification<\/li>\n
  • Download your data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

    For YouTube channel owners, you may be asked to verify it\u2019s you when you perform certain actions within YouTube Studio.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Use your phone or security key<\/span><\/h2>\n
    \n

    To prove it\u2019s you, have a phone or security key available that’s been registered to your account for at least 7 days. You can use:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • The phone with the\u00a0recovery phone number\u00a0for your account.<\/li>\n
    • A phone that’s signed in to your Google Account.<\/li>\n
    • A security key\u00a0that\u2019s been added to your Google Account.\u00a0This option is only available if you\u2019ve turned on 2-Step Verification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
      Tip:<\/strong>\u00a0If you have a Google Account through work, you may be asked to verify it’s you with your corporate device.<\/div>\n

      If you\u2019re asked to verify it\u2019s you, follow the steps below. Have your phone nearby, and if possible, make sure it’s connected to the internet.<\/p>\n

      1. On the “Verify it’s you” screen, complete the task or select\u00a0More ways to verify<\/strong>. You’ll have some or all of these options:\n
          \n
        • Get a prompt sent to your phone<\/li>\n
        • Get a verification code by text<\/li>\n
        • Get a security code on your Android device<\/li>\n
        • Use your screen lock or fingerprint on your Android device<\/li>\n
        • Use a security key that\u2019s been added to your Google Account<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Follow the on-screen instructions and use your phone when prompted.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Why you might get this step<\/span><\/h2>\n

          This extra step helps protect your account. If someone finds out your username and password, this step helps stop them from taking certain sensitive actions in your account.<\/p>\n

          Your Android device is offline<\/span><\/h2>\n

          If your Android phone isn’t connected to the internet, you can still use it to verify it\u2019s you.<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. On the Google\u00a0sign-in page, enter your username and password.<\/li>\n
          2. If you get the “Verify it’s you” screen, tap\u00a0More ways to verify<\/strong>\u00a0\"and\u00a0Get a security code on your Android phone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          3. Follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            If you don’t get a prompt within a few minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

              \n
            1. Make sure your phone is connected to the internet. To get prompts, you need Wi-Fi or mobile data turned on.<\/li>\n
            2. Confirm that you’re\u00a0signed in to your account on your phone.<\/li>\n
            3. Go to the sign-in screen and tap\u00a0Resend<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              If you don’t get a text within a few minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

              1. Make sure the phone number\u00a0you have is right.<\/li>\n
              2. Make sure you have a strong network signal or that the phone is connected to Wi-Fi.<\/li>\n
              3. Go to the sign-in screen and select\u00a0Resend<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              4. If you still don’t get a text, select\u00a0More ways to verify<\/strong>\u00a0\"and\u00a0Use your phone or tablet to get a security code (even if it’s offline)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
              5. Follow the on-screen instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                To protect your account, you may be blocked from some sensitive actions when at least one of the following items hasn\u2019t been associated with your Google Account for at least 7 days:<\/p>\n
