There\u2019s no charge if you\u2019re a volunteer.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"if-you-are-in-the-process-of-getting-a-standard-or-enhanced-dbs-check\">If you are in the process of getting a standard or enhanced\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0check<\/h3>\n<p>You will need your application reference number (called \u2018form ref\u2019 on your application form).<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0must receive your application form within 28 days.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"if-you-already-have-a-standard-or-enhanced-dbs-certificate\">If you already have a standard or enhanced\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0certificate<\/h3>\n<p>You will need your certificate number. You must register for the Update Service within 30 days of the certificate being issued.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"for-basic-dbs-checks\">For basic\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0checks<\/h3>\n<p>For basic checks,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/disclosure.homeoffice.gov.uk\/HomeOfficeExternalPortal\/faces\/wcnav_defaultSelection?_afrLoop=800848214483403&amp;_afrWindowMode=0&amp;_afrWindowId=null&amp;_adf.ctrl-state=srz79q8mz_1\" rel=\"external\">register for an online services account<\/a>\u00a0instead of using the Update Service.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"sign-in\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Sign in<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve registered, you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.crbonline.gov.uk\/crsc\/subscriber\" rel=\"external\">sign in to the Update Service<\/a>\u00a0to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>add or remove a certificate<\/li>\n<li>give employers permission to check if anything\u2019s changed on your certificate<\/li>\n<li>see who\u2019s checked if anything\u2019s changed on your certificate<\/li>\n<li>view your details<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to take your\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0certificate from one job to the next, unless:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an employer asks you to get a new certificate<\/li>\n<li>you need a certificate for a different type of \u2018workforce\u2019 (for example, you have an \u2018adult workforce\u2019 certificate and need a \u2018child workforce\u2019 certificate)<\/li>\n<li>you need a different level certificate (for example, you have a standard\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0certificate and need an enhanced one)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The employer can tell you what\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0certificate they need you to have.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29926 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk.jpg\" alt=\"vehicle-tax uk\" width=\"827\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk.jpg 827w, https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk-768x337.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 827px) 100vw, 827px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"renew-your-subscription\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Renew your subscription<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A subscription to the Update Service lasts for one year.<\/p>\n<p>You can renew your subscription through the Update Service, either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>when you first register, by choosing automatic renewal<\/li>\n<li>up to 30 days before your current subscription ends &#8211; but you cannot renew on the last day of your subscription<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/secure.crbonline.gov.uk\/crsc\/subscriber\" rel=\"external\">Sign in to your account<\/a>\u00a0to renew your subscription.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not renew your subscription before it ends, you\u2019ll need to apply for a new\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0check and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.crbonline.gov.uk\/crsc\/apply?execution=e1s1\" rel=\"external\">register for the Update Service<\/a>\u00a0again.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"employers-and-other-organisations\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Employers and other organisations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.crbonline.gov.uk\/crsc\/check\" rel=\"external\">check a\u00a0<abbr title=\"Disclosure and Barring Service\">DBS<\/abbr>\u00a0certificate status online<\/a>, you must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/disclosure-barring-service-check\/arranging-checks-as-an-employer\">legally entitled<\/a>\u00a0to carry out a check<\/li>\n<li>have the worker\u2019s permission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You do not need to pay or register to carry out a status check.
