{"id":29924,"date":"2023-08-16T12:30:35","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T07:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.seminarsonly.com\/news\/?p=29924"},"modified":"2023-08-16T12:32:52","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T07:02:52","slug":"www-gov-uk-vehicle-tax-vehicle-tax-and-registration-gov-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/www-gov-uk-vehicle-tax-vehicle-tax-and-registration-gov-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax : Vehicle Tax and Registration- GOV.UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax : Vehicle Tax and Registration- GOV.UK<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>To pay your Vehicle Tax Online, go to www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax and you can pay by debit or credit card, or Direct Debit or go to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.postoffice.co.uk\/branch-finder\" rel=\"external\">Post Office<\/a>\u00a0that deals with vehicle tax.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tax your car, motorcycle or other vehicle using a reference number from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a recent reminder (V11) or \u2018last chance\u2019 warning letter from\u00a0<abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr><\/li>\n<li>your vehicle log book (V5C) &#8211; it must be in your name<\/li>\n<li>the green \u2018new keeper\u2019 slip from a log book if you\u2019ve just bought it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you do not have any of these documents, you\u2019ll need to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-log-book\">apply for a new log book<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can pay by debit or credit card, or Direct Debit.<\/p>\n<p>You must tax your vehicle even if you do not have to pay anything, for example if\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-exempt-from-vehicle-tax\">you\u2019re exempt<\/a>\u00a0because you\u2019re disabled.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to meet all the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/legal-obligations-drivers-riders\">legal obligations for drivers<\/a>\u00a0before you can drive.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"change-your-cars-tax-class-to-or-from-disabled\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Change your car\u2019s tax class to or from \u2018disabled\u2019<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You may need to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/change-vehicle-tax-class\/tax-due-to-run-out-or-changing-if-vehicle-is-exempt\">change your vehicle\u2019s tax class<\/a>, for example if either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>your car was previously used by a disabled person<\/li>\n<li>you\u2019re disabled and taxing your car for the first time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can only\u00a0apply at a Post Office @ https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"at-a-post-office\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">At a Post Office<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Go to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.postoffice.co.uk\/branch-finder\" rel=\"external\">Post Office<\/a>\u00a0that deals with vehicle tax. You need to take either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the\u00a0payment for your vehicle tax @ https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-tax-rate-tables<\/li>\n<li>your bank or building society account details to set up a Direct Debit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You will not need these payment details if your\u00a0vehicle is exempt from tax @ https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/vehicle-exempt-from-vehicle-tax.<\/p>\n<p>You also need to take one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>your vehicle log book (V5C) (it must be in your name)<\/li>\n<li>the green \u2018new keeper\u2019 slip from a log book if you\u2019ve just bought it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29926 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk.jpg\" alt=\"vehicle-tax uk\" width=\"827\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk.jpg 827w, https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/seminarsonly.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vehicle-tax-uk-768x337.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 827px) 100vw, 827px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-cancel-your-vehicle-tax\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How to cancel your vehicle tax<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You must tell\u00a0<abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr>\u00a0that your vehicle has been:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sold or transferred\u00a0to someone else<\/li>\n<li>taken off the road, for example you\u2019re keeping it in a garage &#8211; this is called a Statutory Off Road Notification (<abbr title=\"Statutory Off Road Notification\">SORN<\/abbr>)<\/li>\n<li>written off\u00a0by your insurance company<\/li>\n<li>scrapped\u00a0at a vehicle scrapyard<\/li>\n<li>stolen\u00a0&#8211; you\u2019ll have to apply for a refund separately<\/li>\n<li>exported out of the UK<\/li>\n<li>registered as exempt from vehicle tax<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"what-happens-after-youve-told-dvla\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What happens after you\u2019ve told\u00a0<abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency\">DVLA<\/abbr><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol class=\"steps\">\n<li>Your vehicle tax will be cancelled by DVLA. If you pay by Direct Debit, the Direct Debit will be cancelled automatically.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll automatically get a refund cheque for any full months left on your vehicle tax. The refund is calculated from the date DVLA gets your information. The cheque is sent to the name and address on the vehicle log book.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 class=\"part-title\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Get a duplicate log book<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"gem-c-govspeak govuk-govspeak direction-ltr disable-youtube\" data-module=\"govspeak\" data-govspeak-module-started=\"true\">\n<p>You need to get a log book (V5C) if the original has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed by you or your insurance company.<\/p>\n<p>You can get a duplicate log book online if you do not need to change anything in the log book.
