To easily determine if a domain is running, use the\u00a0<tt>asadmin list-domains<\/tt>\u00a0command.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Was the Server Started at the Expected Port?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>Description<\/h3>\n<p>The server might be running at a different port number than expected, either because it was intentionally installed there, or because another server was already running on the default port when the server was installed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ourtechroom.com\/images\/what-is-localhost8080123527.jpg?ezimgfmt=ng%3Awebp%2Fngcb4%2Frs%3Adevice%2Frscb4-1\" sizes=\"\" srcset=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">To Determine Which Port Number the Server Is Using<\/span><\/h2>\n<ol class=\"sgprocedure\">\n<li class=\"sgstep\"><b>Examine the server&#8217;s configuration file:<\/b>\n<pre><var>as-install<\/var>\/domains\/domain1\/config\/domain.xml<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"sgstep\"><b>Find the\u00a0<tt>network-listener<\/tt>\u00a0element.<\/b><\/li>\n<li class=\"sgstep\"><b>Inspect the value of the\u00a0<tt>port<\/tt>\u00a0attribute.<\/b>Be sure to enter the correct port number when invoking the server.\n<div class=\"sgnote\">\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Note &#8211;\u00a0<\/b>The server&#8217;s default port number is\u00a0<tt>8080<\/tt>, however, there are a number of ways in which the expected value can change:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A different port number was specified during installation.<\/li>\n<li>A previous installation exists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Is a Personal Firewall Enabled?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Issues might result when personal firewalls are enabled. Disable your personal firewall and see if the server access problem still exists.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"sgtasktitle2\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">To Start a Domain<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When you start a domain or server, the domain administration server (DAS) is started. After startup, the DAS runs constantly, listening for and accepting requests.<\/p>\n<p>If the domain directory is not specified, the domain in the default\u00a0<tt><var>as-install<\/var>\/domains<\/tt>\u00a0directory is started. If there are two or more domains, the\u00a0<tt>domain_name<\/tt>\u00a0operand must be specified. Each domain must be started separately.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sgnote\">\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Note &#8211;\u00a0<\/b>For Microsoft Windows, you can use an alternate method to start a domain. From the Windows Start menu, select the command for your distribution of GlassFish Server:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are using the Full Platform, select Programs -&gt; Oracle GlassFish Server -&gt; Start Admin Server.<\/li>\n<li>If you are using the Web Profile, select Programs -&gt; Oracle GlassFish Server Web Profile -&gt; Start Admin Server.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>This subcommand is supported in local mode only.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"sgstep\"><b>Start a domain by using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.oracle.com\/cd\/E18930_01\/html\/821-2433\/start-domain-1.html#SJSASEEREFMANstart-domain-1\"><tt>start-domain<\/tt>(1)<\/a>\u00a0subcommand.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Example 3-6 Starting a Domain<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This example starts\u00a0<tt>domain2<\/tt>\u00a0in the default domain directory.<\/p>\n<pre>asadmin&gt; <b>start-domain domain2<\/b><\/pre>\n<p>If there is only one domain, you can omit the domain name. When stopping a domain, the DAS stops accepting new connections and then waits for all outstanding connections to complete. This shutdown process takes a few seconds. While the domain is stopped, the Administration Console and most of the\u00a0<tt>asadmin<\/tt>\u00a0subcommands cannot be used. This subcommand is particularly useful in stopping a runaway server. When restarting a domain, the DAS stops accepting new connections and then waits for all outstanding connections to complete. This shutdown process takes a few seconds. Until the domain has restarted, the Administration Console and most of the\u00a0<tt>asadmin<\/tt> subcommands cannot be used.<\/p>\n<p>This subcommand is particularly useful for environments where the server machine is secured and difficult to get to.
