It May Take a Few Minutes to Activate Your iPhone : Activate and Setting Up Your Device<\/span><\/h2>\n

Turn on your device<\/span><\/h2>\n

Press and hold the device’s power button until you see the Apple logo. You’ll then see “Hello” in many languages. Follow the steps to get started.\u00a0If you’re blind or have low vision, you can\u00a0turn on VoiceOver or Zoom\u00a0from the Hello screen.<\/p>\n

When asked, choose your language. Then tap your country or region. This affects how information looks on your device, including date, time, contacts and more. At this point, you can tap the blue accessibility button to\u00a0set up Accessibility Options\u00a0that can optimise your setup experience and the use of your new device.<\/p>\n

Get help if your device won’t turn on, or if it’s disabled or requires a passcode.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you have another device on iOS 11 or later, use Quick Start<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you have another device that’s running iOS 11 or later, you can use it to automatically set up your new device with Quick Start. Bring the two devices close together, then\u00a0follow the instructions.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t have another\u00a0device with iOS 11 or later, tap ‘Set Up Manually’ to continue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Activate your device<\/span><\/h2>\n

You need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, mobile network or iTunes to activate and continue setting up your device.<\/p>\n

Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to use, or select a different option. If you’re setting up an iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular), you might need to\u00a0insert your SIM card first.<\/p>\n

Get help if you\u00a0can’t connect to Wi-Fi\u00a0or\u00a0if you can’t activate your iPhone.<\/p>\n

Set up Face ID or Touch ID and create a passcode<\/span><\/h2>\n

On some devices, you can set up\u00a0Face ID\u00a0or\u00a0Touch ID. With\u00a0these features, you can use face recognition or your fingerprint\u00a0to unlock your device and make purchases. Tap Continue and follow the instructions, or tap “Set Up Later in Settings”.<\/p>\n

Next, set a six-digit passcode to help\u00a0protect your data. You need a passcode\u00a0to use features like Face ID, Touch ID and\u00a0Apple Pay. If you’d like a four-digit passcode, custom passcode or no passcode, tap ‘Passcode Options’.<\/p>\n

Restore or transfer your information and data<\/span><\/h2>\n

If you have an\u00a0iCloud or iTunes backup, or an\u00a0Android device, you can restore or transfer your data from your old device to your new device.<\/p>\n

If you don’t have a backup or another device, select\u00a0Don’t Transfer Apps & Data.<\/p>\n

Sign in with your Apple ID<\/span><\/h2>\n

Enter your Apple ID and password,\u00a0or tap ‘Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID?’ From there, you can recover your Apple ID or password, create an Apple ID or set it up later. If you use more than one Apple ID, tap ‘Use different Apple IDs for iCloud and iTunes?’<\/p>\n

When you sign in with your Apple ID, you might be prompted for a verification code from your previous device.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Turn on automatic updates and set up other features<\/span><\/h2>\n

On the next screens, you can decide whether to\u00a0share information\u00a0with app developers and allow iOS to update automatically.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Set up Siri and other services<\/span><\/h2>\n

Next, you\u2019ll be asked to set up or enable services and features, such as Siri. On some devices, you’ll be asked to say a few phrases so that Siri can get to know your voice.<\/p>\n

If you signed in with your Apple ID, follow the steps to set up\u00a0Apple Pay\u00a0and\u00a0iCloud Keychain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Set up Screen Time and more display options<\/span><\/h2>\n

Screen Time\u00a0gives you an insight into how much time you and your children spend on your devices. It also lets you set time limits for daily app use. After you’ve set up Screen Time,\u00a0you can turn on True Tone if your device supports it, and use Display Zoom to adjust the size of icons and text on your Home screen.<\/p>\n

If you have an iPhone X or later, learn more about\u00a0using gestures to navigate your device. If you have an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, you can adjust the click for your Home button.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
