How to Update Roku : How to update the software on your Roku TV or Roku streaming player<\/span><\/h2>\n

All Roku TV models and Roku streaming players are designed to ensure they are always running the latest version of software. Your Roku device will check to see whether new software is available for download during initial setup and whenever the Roku device is powered on, and then randomly every 24-36 hours.<\/p>\n

The download and installation are done automatically without ever interrupting your use of the Roku device. Any Roku peripherals, such as Roku wireless speakers or a Roku Wireless Subwoofer, will automatically be updated alongside your Roku TV or streaming player.<\/p>\n

Why would you want to check manually?<\/span><\/h2>\n

You may want to manually check for an update if:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Your Roku device has been disconnected for an extended period of time.<\/li>\n
  • You recently installed a channel from\u00a0channelstore.roku.com.<\/li>\n
  • You recently installed a\u00a0non-certified channel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Updating software if you have NOT activated your Roku TV<\/span><\/h2>\n

    The following instructions assume that you have\u00a0not activated<\/u>\u00a0your Roku TV and that you selected\u00a0Connect to the internet later<\/strong>\u00a0during the initial setup and activation process. To update the software manually, you need a standard USB 2.0 flash drive that is 256MB or larger. You also need to move between your computer (not your smartphone) and Roku TV as detailed below.<\/p>\n

    On your computer<\/span><\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. Open a web browser and visit\u00a0tvupdate.roku.com.<\/li>\n
    2. Choose the brand of your Roku TV (e.g., TCL).\"First<\/li>\n
    3. Enter your\u00a0Roku Model Number<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Serial Number<\/strong>. The model appears as 4 numbers followed by a letter (e.g., 6104X), and the serial number is a combination of 12 numbers and\/or letters. To find this information, go to\u00a0Settings\u00a0<\/strong>>\u00a0System<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0About<\/strong>\u00a0on your Roku TV.\"Second<\/li>\n
    4. Select\u00a0Download Software<\/strong>\u00a0to get the\u00a0update.roku<\/strong>\u00a0installer file downloaded to your computer.\"Third<\/li>\n
    5. Locate the\u00a0update.roku<\/strong>\u00a0file on your computer. By default, it is often in a\u00a0Downloads\u00a0<\/em>folder.<\/li>\n
    6. Insert the USB flash drive and copy the\u00a0update.roku<\/strong>\u00a0file to the flash drive. Do not put it in a subfolder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Once the transfer is complete, remove the USB flash drive from your computer and move it to your Roku TV.<\/p>\n
