You have the flexibility to make in-person payments and online purchases using the funds in your checking account when you have a debit card; however, you will need to activate the card before you can use it.
With a few notable exceptions, you have complete freedom in choosing how to initiate the opening of your brand-new account.
Truist Online Savings accounts can only be opened online.
Truist CDs can only be opened at a branch.
Online: Get started right away by opening your account online. You”ll have to wait a few days for your debit card and checks to arrive by mail—or you can visit a branch to get a temporary debit card ASAP.
Branch: Visit a branch near you during business hours to open your new account. Bonus—you’ll walk out with a ready-to-use temporary debit card with your new checking account

Activate your Truist Debit Card Online
Activate your Truist Card today. Please provide the information below to get started.
1. Click Here to go to the Activation Page
2. Please enter your Card Number on the Page
3. Then enter the Expiration Date like month and year written on the card
4. Now enter the Security Code and Zip Code on the page
5. Lastly enter the SSN or TIN.
6. Now click the Activate Button on the page.
The Card will be ACTIVATED in due time.
Open Your New Account
You can open your new account any way you want. (Note that Truist CDs can only be opened at a branch.)

For first-time check orders:
- Online: Sign in to Truist Online Banking, and select Order checks and supplies. Follow the instructions.
- By phone: Call 844-4TRUIST (844-487-8478).
For check reorders:
- Online: Sign in to Truist Online Banking, and select Order checks and supplies. Follow the instructions.
- By phone: Call Deluxe at 877-838-5287.
Business check orders
For first-time check orders and check reorders:
- Online: Sign in to Truist Online Banking, and select Order Checks and supplies. Follow the instructions.
- By phone: Call Deluxe at 800-559-6134.
Online banking
- Sign in to online banking.
- Select Transfer & pay.
- Select Transfer money & pay Truist accounts.
- Choose the account you want to transfer money from in the first drop-down menu.
- Choose the account you want to transfer money to in the second drop down menu.
- Select One-time or Recurring
- Enter the amount to transfer
- Select when to transfer.
- For One-time transfers, select or enter a transaction date.
- For Recurring transfers, select or enter your start date, and then select your frequency from the drop-down menu.
- Enter an optional memo.
- Select Continue.
- Review your transfer details. If they’re incorrect, select Edit to make corrections. If they’re correct, select Send transfer.
- Sign in to online banking.
- Select Transfer & pay.
- Select Transfer money & pay Truist accounts.
- Select the account you want to transfer money from in “From”.
- Select the account you want to transfer money to in “To”.
- Select One-time or Recurring.
- Enter the amount to transfer
- Select when to transfer.
- For One-time transfers, select or enter a transaction date.
- For Recurring transfers, select or enter your start date, and then select your frequency from the drop-down menu.
- Enter an optional memo.
- Select Continue.
- Review your transfer details. If they’re incorrect, select Edit to make corrections. If they’re correct, select Send transfer.
