P2P Apple Pay : How To Use Apple Pay Peer To Peer

Apple Pay offers peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, allowing you to send and receive money directly to and from other Apple Pay users. This feature is currently available within the Messages app or by asking Siri.

However, Apple has announced a new P2P feature called “Tap to Cash” that will be available with the iOS 18 update in Autumn 2024. “Tap to Cash” will enable iPhone users to transfer money simply by holding their phones together, even without needing each other’s phone numbers.

How To Use Apple Pay Peer To Peer

Currently, there are two main ways to use Apple Pay peer-to-peer payments:

1. Using the Messages App:

  • Open the Messages app and start a new conversation or tap an existing one with the person you want to send money to.
  • Tap the Apple Pay icon (it looks like a stylized “A”) in the app bar above the keyboard.
  • Enter the amount you want to send.
  • Tap “Pay”, then double-click the side button on your iPhone to confirm.
  • Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

2. Using Siri:

  • Activate Siri by saying “Hey Siri” or pressing and holding the side button (or home button, depending on your iPhone model).
  • Say something like: “Send [amount] to [contact name] using Apple Pay.”
  • Confirm the details when Siri asks.
  • Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
