Nick Kyrgios • Casper Ruud • Indian Wells Masters • Rafael Nadal • Australia
Casper Ruud, ranked eighth in the world, was knocked out in the third round by world number one Nick Kyrgios.
It is Kyrgios’ first top-10 win since January 2020 and his 21st overall.
6-4 6-4 victory in 76 minutes, Kyrgios smashed seven aces and didn’t face a break point.
The incredible run of Australians Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells came to an end on Sunday when the duo fell to Jack Sock and John Isner in a thrilling doubles match.
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis had gone undefeated in doubles this year, stunning the tennis world when they won the Australian Open doubles title as wildcards in 2022. The duo finally ran into Isner and Sock, the 2018 champions of the Indian Wells doubles tournament, and lost.
The ‘Special K’s’ were dealt their first defeat of the year when the American duo prevailed 6-3 7-6(3) on Court 1. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Feliciano Lopez, who won the title in Acapulco just a few weeks ago, are now in their crosshairs.
