Kirk McKenzie’s dismissal of Shoaib Bashir made people look twice

Kirk McKenzie tried to hit the ball high with the third ball of the 25th over, which was a flighted delivery by Shoaib Bashir. It looked like Shoaib Bashir stepped on the ball, which led to Kirk McKenzie being given out.

For the second time in three games, England is playing West Indies in a Test match at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. The Three Lions have won the first game of the series and are ahead 1-0.

Because the Lord’s Test was James Anderson’s farewell, this was the first Test after he left England. However, the removal of West Indies batter Kirk McKenzie in their first innings of the second Test did get people’s attention.

The accident happened on the third ball of the 25th over, when Bashir flighted a delivery that made McKenzie want to hit the ball high into the air. The batter hit a straight ball to Ben Stokes, who was standing at mid-on, because he fell for the bowler’s trick.

Nasser Hussain, a commentator on radio, said that Bashir’s delivery was “very close to being a no-ball.” At the end, the third umpire decided in favour of the bowler, but the way McKenzie was dismissed—11 runs out of 27—was still strange.

English bowlers Shoaib Bashir and Gut Atkinson have taken wickets when they have the ball so far. For the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph was the best bowler, with numbers of 3/98 at the end. Kevin Sinclair, Kavem Hodge, and Jayden Seales all took two wickets, and Shamar Joseph took one for 44.
