IRS Error Code 5001 sates that the Primary Social Security Number (SSN) and the last name of the Primary taxpayer on the return do not match IRS records. Review your return to be sure the SSN and last name match what is printed on your Social Security Card.

If you continue to get this error, contact the Social Security Administration at 800-772-1213 or www.ssa.gov to correct the issue. Ask them to update the IRS records and provide an estimate for the update.
1. When SSA makes a correction to your SSN, e-file again.
2. If this will cause you to miss the filing deadline, you may want to print and mail your return.
Make the correction(s) and resubmit.

- They are qualified to prepare, transmit and process e-filed returns.
About the Database and Locator Service
The “Authorized IRS e-file Provider” database is a nationwide listing of all businesses which have been accepted to participate in the electronic filing (IRS e-file) program. “For Profit” Providers that have “opted in” are included in the locator service which allows you to:
