The Texas Education Agency (TEA) releases previously administered tests for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), STAAR Alternate 2, and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS). Some released tests are available in a printable PDF format, some released tests are available in the online testing environment as practice tests, and some are available in both.

Access PDF versions of the released STAAR Alternate 2 tests by clicking the STAAR Alternate 2 Released Tests card.
Local education agencies may order printed versions of the STAAR released tests. Use the online order form below to order printed released tests.
Online Practice Tests
The online practice tests are designed to familiarize students with the online testing environment, the available tools, and the various types of test questions. These tests provide students with an opportunity to interact with the test interface, respond to questions, and locate and use available tools.
The practice tests are released tests that have been previously administered and are available for STAAR and TELPAS. In addition, small sets of test questions (smaller than an actual test) are available as practice sets. These practice sets are used to introduce students to new types of test questions like the new STAAR item types. Access the online practice tests and practice sets by clicking the Practice Tests Login card.
STAAR Released Test Questions
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) releases two types of test questions for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) program—sample questions and test forms. Sample test questions are small subsets of test questions released from the STAAR test banks. These test questions may have been previously administered. A test form is a set of released test questions previously administered together to Texas students which reflects the STAAR test blueprints.

STAAR reading tests contain varying amounts of authentic published texts. Copyright permission for these texts is obtained from publishers by the testing contractor on behalf of TEA. These copyright agreements may or may not include permission for a wider, non-secure release after testing. If material that was used during testing could not be included in a released test form due to specific copyright permissions, text is provided in the form that indicates where the source material originated.
