An NY.gov ID account is an online “ID” and password that enables individuals, businesses and organizations to securely access multiple online government services with a single user ID and password.

Where can I use my NY.gov ID account?
The NY.gov ID Online Services menu option provides a list of online government services.
The online service determines which type of NY.gov ID account is required to access that online service.

- You can sign in to your existing ID.me account, or create a new one
- Please make sure you use the same email address that you used when registering with the NYS DOL.
- Select Driver’s license or state ID, Passport, or Passport card to upload.
- You can take a photo with your mobile device or upload from your computer.
- You’ll be asked to input your phone number. ID.me will send you a text message with a link to your smartphone to take photos of your ID.
- If you don’t have a smartphone, click here to learn how to verify your identity without a smartphone.
- Then click “Continue” at the bottom of the screen.
- After ID.me verifies your identity, you will receive a confirmation text message as a way to protect you from fraud. To learn more about this text message, click here.

What types of NY.gov ID accounts are available?
There are three types of NY.gov ID accounts:
• Personal
• Business
• Government
Personal NY.gov ID –
Allows persons acting in their individual capacity for their personal benefit to access Online Services and may require that individuals verify their identity (i.e. not for use by a business)
Business NY.gov ID –
Allows business organizations registered in New York State to access Online Services, and may require that the business organization’s unique identity be verified and that the individual accessing the account be acting in a business capacity as an authorized representative of the business (i.e. not as an individual).
Business NY.gov ID may be used by representatives of companies, partnerships, sole proprietorships or municipalities and not-for-profit societies. Additional accounts for employees acting in a representative capacity for a business can be created as required.
Government NY.gov ID –
Allows State and local government employees to securely access Online Services Employee Functions.
Why would I need a Personal Ny.gov ID?
A Personal NY.gov ID is used to access services that allow individuals to conduct personal business with the state, such as MyDMV or MyBenefits.
Why would I need a Business NY.gov ID?
A Business NY.gov ID is used to access services that allow business entities to complete business transactions with the state, such as Online Tax Center, NY Business Express or Worker’s Compensation
Why would I need a Government NY.gov ID?
A Government Ny.gov ID is only available to employees of the NYS Workforce, including local government employees and consultants. The IDs are issued internally, require the employee id to be verified and allow the account holder to complete employee related functions.
