To contact Elder Scrolls Online support, Submit a ticket via our website at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com. The “Unexpected Internal Error has occurred” error usually occurs due to overwhelming demands on the megaservers, but may also occur if you have a corrupt file, your game needs to be updated or if you are trying to log in on Steam through an ESO account that is already linked to another Steam Account.
First check Service Alerts and Twitter Support pages to make sure the servers are currently available. If the ESO servers are undergoing maintenance or experiencing an outage, you will not be able to connect until it is resolved. If the ESO servers are online, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Basic Troubleshooting:
- Log out and restart the game and launcher. If an update for ESO is available, this will prompt the update.
- Repair The Elder Scrolls Online launcher to fix corrupt game files.
- Try to switch between megaservers. If you connect to a different Megaserver and are still seeing the “An unexpected internal error has occurred” message, it’s likely there is an error with the game files on your computer. You may be required to fully uninstall ESO and reinstall in order to resolve this.
- Note: You must wait 3 minutes after switching Megaservers to log in or you may receive this error again or Error 103.
Additional Steam Troubleshooting:
- Verify you own The Elder Scrolls Online through Steam. If you downloaded the game during a free play event or are using Steam Library Sharing, you may not own the game through Steam. If you have added ESO as a Non-Steam game to your library, it is recommended you open the ESO launcher directly.
- Make sure you are logging into ESO account that is linked to your Steam account when launching the game through Steam.
- Steam Authentication may be failing. Fully exit and restart Steam. This could prompt an update that will resolve this issue.
HOW DO I LINK TO MY ACCOUNT ON THE ESO WEBSITE?
- Log into the Account section of the ESO website and select “Linked Accounts“
- Select the platform you want to link.
- Sign into the account you want to link and go through the confirmation steps.
- Once you are successfully linked, you will see a chain link next to the site name.
