You can renew your own Medicare card and number if you’re 15 or older and enrolled in Medicare. You can get your own Medicare card online or apply for one using a form.
You can also get a new card with other people. The card will be sent to the address you’ve given. It’ll arrive in about 3 to 4 weeks. You can use a digital copy of your Medicare card straight away.
How to get a Medicare card online
If your Medicare online account is linked to myGov you can get your own card online.
To do this:
- Sign in to myGov
- Select My card
- Select Get a new card and number
- Follow the prompts
You can also use the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
You can get your own card online if you meet all of these requirements:
- you’re living in Australia and you’re an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen or you have a permanent resident visa.
- you’re 15 or older.
- you’re on one Medicare card only.
- your current Medicare card has other people on it.
- you want your own Medicare card with just your name on it.
Replace your Medicare card or get an extra card
You can get a new Medicare card if it expires or is lost, stolen or damaged. You can also get an extra card.
Replacing your lost, stolen or damaged card
If your Medicare card is lost, stolen or damaged, you can ask for a new card. You can do this using:
- your Medicare online account through myGov
- the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
You can also call the Medicare program.
You can use a digital copy of your new Medicare card straight away in the Express Plus Medicare app.
Replacing your expired card
We’ll send you a new card about 4 to 8 weeks before your current card expires. You don’t need to do anything. We’ll send it to the address we have for you.
