How To Activate Teen Venmo Card
To activate your new Teen Venmo Card, Click the link your parent or guardian texted you. If you don’t have the Venmo app installed, we’re going to ask you to install our app. Tap Get Started.
Teens ages 13-17 are eligible for a Teen Debit Card and the Venmo app with sign-up from a parent or legal guardian.
Time to get started with a Teen Account!
If you were provided access to the Venmo app, follow the step below to complete the setup of the Teen Account.
- Click the link your parent or guardian texted you.
- If you don’t have the Venmo app installed, we’re going to ask you to install our app
- Tap Get Started
- Add your phone number, tap Send code
- Add the code we texted you, then tap Confirm it.
- We will have you verify your phone number with us
- If you run into any issues here, please have your parent or guardian reach out to us.
- Add in your personal information and create a username
- Be sure to use your legal first and last name.
- Create your unique password.
- Select Next.
- You’re ready to start using Venmo!.
What is a Teen Account?
Have you ever wanted to use Venmo? Well, today’s your lucky day! Venmo now offers a Teen Account, created by your parent or guardian, for anyone that is 13-17 years old when the account is created.
The Venmo Teen Account has features like:
💳 Venmo Teen Mastercard(R) with your name on it
📱 The option to use the Venmo app to send and receive money and track the Teen Account balance
💰 Got a job? Set up Direct Deposit to get your paycheck into the Teen Account balance
How can I add money to the Venmo Teen Account?
Any funds received by the Teen Account will be added to the Venmo Teen Account balance.
Teen Accounts with app access can:
- Receive payments from the parent or guardian account
- Receive payments from friends or family
- Receive paychecks via Direct Deposit
Teen Accounts without app access can:
- Receive payments from the parent or guardian account
- Receive paychecks via Direct Deposit
How can I apply?
How do I receive payments to the Venmo Teen Account?
Teen Accounts with app access will be able to receive payments via the QR code or by being located in the Venmo search by name or username. Please note that search visibility is a security feature and will be managed by your parent or guardian. Teen Accounts will populate in search for any users accepted as a friend of the Teen Account on Venmo, regardless of the search setting.
How to find your QR Code:
- Tap the Scan tab
- Tap the Venmo me near the top of the screen to view your QR code
From this screen, you can share or print your QR code.
Teen Accounts without app access can only receive person-to-person payments from the parent or guardian account.
How do I check the balance on the Venmo Teen Account?
If you have access to the app, you can track the Teen Account balance in the Venmo app.
How to check the Teen Account balance:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap Wallet
- Look under Venmo Balance
Teen Accounts without app access will not be able to view the Teen Account balance until they’re given app access by their parent or guardian. Your parent or guardian can check their app to see the Teen Account balance. You can also check the balance at an ATM without a fee.
What are the limits?
Venmo Teen Account has different limits depending on if your parent or guardian provided you with app access or not.

How do I send money to my friends?
If you have access to the app, you will be able to send payments to friends and family within the Venmo app.
Here’s how to send or request money:
- Tap Pay/Request at the bottom of the screen
- Search and add the person you want to
- Enter an amount and add a note
- Tap Request or Pay
Teen accounts without app access will not be able to add a bank or card to the Venmo Teen Account.
How do I add a bank or card to the Venmo Teen Account?
If you have access to the app, you can add a bank or card to the Teen Account to use for sending payments or making in-store QR code purchases if there’s not enough money in the Teen Account balance to cover the full amount.

- Go to the Me tab by tapping your picture or initials
- Go to the Wallet section
- Tap Add a bank or card
- Then select Bank
- Select your preferred verification method
💳 How to add a Card:
- Go to the Me tab by tapping your picture or initials
- Go to the Wallet section
- Tap Add a bank or card
- Then select Card
- Add your debit card details
Double-check with your parent or guardian that the card or bank account you want to add to Venmo can be used. Your parent or guardian will also receive notification that you have added the bank or card to the Teen Account.
