How To Activate Monzo Card
To Activate Monzo Card, Tap the Home icon in the menu bar. Tap Activate My Card. The first time you use it, you’ll need to pay by Chip and PIN, but after that you can use your card to make online and contactless payments as well.
Here’s how to activate your Monzo card:
Using the Monzo app (easiest method):
Open the Monzo app: Make sure you’re logged into the app on your phone.
Find the “Activate Card” button:
- New to Monzo: Tap the ‘Home’ icon, then ‘Activate My Card’.
- Replacement card: Tap the ‘Home’ icon, then ‘Activate new card’ under your card image. If you don’t see this, swipe down on your payments list.
Follow the on-screen prompts: You’ll be guided through the process, which may include:
Tapping your card to the back of your phone (if your phone has NFC)
Entering your card’s long number manually
Confirming your card’s PIN
Once your new card arrives in the post, simply open the app and tap to activate your new card. Rather than typing in the card number, or even having to take a picture, simply tap your card and phone together to activate it immediately.
If you setup Apple Pay or Google Pay when first prompted during signup, then you’ll be able to access the app before the physical card arrives. However, if you skip past this section, you’ll need to wait until the physical card arrives and then activate it before being able to access the rest of the app.
Activating your card
If you’re new to Monzo:
Tap the Home icon in the menu bar
Tap Activate My Card
If you’ve ordered a replacement card:
Tap the Home icon in the menu bar
- Tap Activate new card underneath your Monzo card (if you can’t find this button, swipe down on your list of payments)

My card hasn’t arrived yet
We send cards to UK addresses by Royal Mail 1st Class. If you’ve ordered a replacement card to an overseas addresses it’ll be delivered via DHL.
90% of cards arrive at UK addresses the next day (if you order before 3pm on a weekday), but it can take 2-5 working days if Royal Mail’s busier than usual
If it’s been longer than 5 working days since you ordered your card to a UK address, go to Help in the app and send us a message. If it hasn’t, your card should be on its way to you.
International deliveries may take longer and will vary depending on the country we’re sending your card to.
Here’s how to check your card’s delivery status (and reorder it if you need to) in app:
Tap Home in the Monzo app
Tap on the name of the account you need, if required
Open the Manage tab
- Scroll to Card ordering where you’ll find your card’s status
How to use Monzo with Google Pay
You can add your Monzo card to Google Pay if you’ve got a compatible Android phone.
Here’s how you can do it:
- Download the Google Pay app from the Google Play Store
- Follow the Google Pay app’s instructions to add your Monzo card
- They’ll send you a code via text to check your account, which you’ll need to enter

Monzo helps you budget by keeping track of different kinds of spending. Whenever you buy something with Monzo, we automatically put your payment into a category, like ‘Transport’ or ‘Groceries’. Then, in the Summary tab in your app, you can see what you’ve spent on each category this month.
You can set a monthly spending budget. Then as you spend, we’ll let you know how close you’re getting to your limits, and give you gentle reminders to stay on track.
You can also use Pots to set money aside, away from your main balance. Try putting money you need for bills into a Pot as soon as you get paid, and only moving it back into your account when you need it.
