Activate Grammarly on Google Docs

To activate Grammarly on Google Docs, add the Grammarly extension to your web browser. Once found, click “Add to Chrome” (or the equivalent for your browser) and confirm the installation.

Follow these steps:

1. Install the Grammarly Extension

  • Open Google Chrome (Grammarly works best with Chrome).
  • Go to the Grammarly Chrome Extension page: Grammarly for Chrome
  • Click on the Add to Chrome button and follow the prompts to install the extension.

2. Log in to Grammarly

  • Once the extension is installed, click the Grammarly icon (it looks like a green “G”) in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.
  • Log in to your Grammarly account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one for free.

3. Enable Grammarly in Google Docs

  • Open Google Docs in your Chrome browser.
  • Start a new document or open an existing one.
  • Grammarly should automatically begin working and underlining potential errors as you type.
  • If Grammarly doesn’t automatically start, you might need to refresh the page, and make sure the Grammarly extension is turned on (the icon should be colored in the toolbar).

4. Check Grammarly’s Suggestions

  • Click on the underlined words or phrases in your Google Doc to see Grammarly’s suggestions for grammar, punctuation, style, and more.
  • You can accept or reject the suggestions directly in your document.

5. Grammarly Sidebar (Optional)

  • To access the Grammarly sidebar with additional suggestions and writing insights, click on the Grammarly icon that appears in the document’s toolbar when the extension is active.

6. Adjust Grammarly Settings (Optional)

  • You can adjust the settings to personalize your Grammarly experience.
  • Go to the Grammarly settings by clicking on the Grammarly icon in the top-right corner of Chrome, then select Settings.

Important Notes:

  • Free Version: The free version of Grammarly includes grammar and spelling checks.
  • Premium Version: The Premium version offers more advanced suggestions (e.g., for style, tone, clarity, and vocabulary enhancement).

Once you’ve installed the extension, Grammarly will be ready to help you improve your writing in Google Docs!

To make sure grammarly is working within google docs, click on the green grammarly icon located in the upper right hand corner of the browser. Within the drop down menu that appears, ensure the toggle switch for “check for writing suggestions on Google Docs” is turned to the on position.

Grammarly offers both free and premium versions, with the premium version providing more advanced features.
