After negotiating with the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh will receive a salary that is more than the $12.5 million a year he allegedly received to remain at Michigan, but lower than the $18 million he had originally proposed.
In a move that brings the 60-year-old back to the NFL following a successful nine seasons with the Michigan Wolverines college football club, Jim Harbaugh has agreed to take over as head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers.
As to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chargers have offered Harbaugh a five-year contract. Harbaugh has experience coaching in the NFL, having led the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014.

Los Angeles Chargers owner Dean Spanos gushed, “Jim Harbaugh is football personified, and I can think of no one better to lead the team forward.” So says the owner.
“You don’t build a resume like Jim’s by accident and you don’t do it alone,” added John Spanos, president of football operations for the Chargers. A group is necessary. And Jim Harbaugh is the only coach in recent memory to have produced a winning club time and time again. Both his former teammates and his opponents hold him in high esteem.

Under Harbaugh’s stewardship, Michigan—his alma mater—has gone 87-25 in nine seasons. Despite serving two three-game suspensions during the regular season, he managed a perfect 13-0 record this year, adding to his impressive record.

The Denver Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings were among his latest interviewees. According to a story earlier this month by Richard Johnson of Sports Illustrated, Michigan had already extended a five-year contract to Harbaugh for $55 million.
Few head coaches have achieved the same amount of success at the collegiate and professional levels as Jim Harbaugh. In the four seasons before he took over in Ann Arbour, he led the 49ers of San Francisco to a 44-19-1 record and a trip to the Super Bowl. Additionally, from 2007 through 2010, Harbaugh revived a struggling Stanford programme, leading the Cardinal to a 29-21 record.
According to USA Today’s salary database, Harbaugh placed twelveth in the country among college football coaches with $8,254,600 in compensation from Michigan this season. This amount does not include postseason bonuses. There is a potential playoff incentive of $3 million on top of his $7.63 million regular salary for 2023.
