HBO (previously called HBO NOW) is a stand-alone streaming service that lets you stream all of HBO without a TV package. You can stream all of HBO’s original series, plus hit movies, documentaries, sports, and exclusive comedy specials.

If you get HBO with your cable or satellite TV package, you may be able to stream HBO plus much more using HBO Max. If you subscribe to HBO through an AT&T video service, you can stream HBO plus much more using HBO Max. Download the HBO Max app or go to HBOMax.com on your computer and sign in through your provider account.

If you added HBO to your Hulu plan, you can stream HBO on Hulu or stream all of HBO Max using the HBO Max app. If you get HBO through a TV, internet, or mobile provider, you may have access to HBO Max.

How to use Chromecast to cast HBO to your TV

You can use Chromecast to cast HBO from your computer to your TV.

Important  Chromecast and your computer with HBO must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Cast from your computer

1. Turn on your TV and make sure Chromecast is set up and plugged in.
2. On the computer, open Chrome and go to HBONOW.com (sign in if needed).
3. Start playing a video on HBONOW.com. If you’re watching something full-screen, press the Esc key or click the full-screen icon (in the lower-right corner).
4. Do either of the following:
   • Tap the Google Cast button in the lower-right corner of the video player (next to the volume control).
   • In the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser, click the Settings button (appears as three dots) > then choose Cast.
5. Choose the device that you want to cast to.
6. Once connected, the video will start playing on your TV.
7. To stop casting, choose the Google Cast button or the More button (appears as three dots) > Cast, and then choose Stop.

What happened to HBO on Roku and Amazon Fire devices?

The HBO app on Roku and Amazon Fire devices has been updated to the HBO Max app.

You can stream all of HBO and so much more on your Roku or Amazon Fire TV devices and tablets using the HBO Max app. You shouldn’t need to sign in. But if you do, do one of the following depending on how you subscribed to HBO:

• Subscribed via Roku or Amazon Appstore: Sign in using your account email and password.

What’s the difference between HBO and HBO Max?

The biggest difference is what you can stream.

• HBO Max. Stream HBO, plus SO much more.Stream all of HBO together with a collection of classic TV favorites, even more blockbuster movies, and new Max Originals.
• HBO (previously called HBO NOW). Stream HBO.

Can I still use an HBO NOW gift card?

Yes. You can redeem your HBO NOW gift card at HBONOW.com/gift, and then sign in to HBO Max with your HBO NOW email and password to access all of HBO Max. You can’t redeem your HBO NOW gift card directly at HBOMax.com.

How much does HBO cost?

HBO is available without a TV package at HBONOW.com for $14.99/month (plus applicable taxes). HBO subscriptions auto-renew each month until you cancel your subscription.

HBO Max is available through many providers (e.g. TV, internet, and mobile providers)—see the list below. The HBO GO app is no longer available.

With HBO Max, you can stream all of HBO plus much more. If your provider supports HBO Max, you can sign in to HBO Max using your provider account for no extra cost. Here’s how:

1. Install the HBO Max app on a supported device.
2. Sign in to HBO Max by choosing Sign in with a Provider on the sign-in screen. Then, choose your provider and enter your provider account credentials.
3. Once you’re signed in, you can create profiles and start streaming.

You can sign in to HBO Max on different devices, but the number of simultaneous streams is limited for security reasons.

What to do

If you’re getting a streaming on too many devices message, do the following:

1. Sign in to HBO Max on your phone, tablet, or computer.
2. Do one of the following:
   • Phone or tablet: Tap the Profile icon and then the Settings icon (upper-left corner).
   • Computer: In the upper-right corner, choose your profile icon.
3. Choose Manage Devices (Manage Devices is only available for Adult profiles). A list of devices that you’ve recently used appears under Other Devices.

4. Take note of all devices with a recent Last Used time.
5. To start streaming on another device, you’ll need to stop streaming on a device that has been used recently. If you stop streaming on a device, you may need to wait a few minutes before you can start streaming on another device.
