Note: To translate images with your camera in all supported languages, your device must have an auto-focus camera and a dual-core CPU with ARMv7. For technical details, check your manufacturer’s instructions.
Tip: In version 6.10 and up, you can use a Dark theme in the Translate app.
The first time you open Google Translate, you’ll be asked to choose your primary language and the language you translate most often. To pick from available languages, tap the Down arrow .
To download both languages for offline use, leave “Translate offline” checked. If either language isn’t available for download, it will say “Not available offline.”
Note: To download a language, by default, you must be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
At the bottom, select the language you want to download.
Next to the language, tap Download .
If it’s not there, the language can’t be downloaded.
If it asks you to download the language file, tap Download.
Tip: In the Translate app, your saved languages show up as Downloaded .
Download languages without Wi-Fi
Since language files are small, when you’re not connected to Wi-Fi, you can download them with mobile data. If you don’t use Wi-Fi, it may affect your mobile carrier charges.
On your Android phone or tablet, open the Translate app .
Tap Menu Settings Data usage.
Tap Downloaded languages.
To always confirm before you download without Wi-Fi: Tap Ask before downloading.
To always use mobile data when you can’t use Wi-Fi: Tap Use Wi-Fi or mobile network.
