China Delta Variant Cases Hit 7 Month High: China’s coronavirus cases
The number of coronavirus cases in China has hit a seven-month high on Tuesday, according to Chinese health officials, after a cluster at a test site led to an increase in numbers. The current outbreak, which has seen school closures, mandatory quarantines, and mass testing, has been described as the most severe in China since the H7N9 virus emerged in the city of Wuhan.
Domestic infections had been brought to almost zero, which allowed the economy to rebound though accompanied by border restrictions.
Cases are rising, however. One hundred and forty-three new coronavirus infections were announced by Chinese health authorities on Tuesday, and a hundred and eight of them were contracted locally. In recent days, several cases in eastern Yangzhou city have been connected to a Covid-19 testing site.

Several officials have been warned by city authorities after mishandling the city’s mass testing, which caused the virus to spread, an indication of the impact even a small outbreak has on the public. Only a small number of party members and cadres have yet to fulfil their duties, according to Yangzhou city officials. During these five tests, the city of 4.6 million people has so far collected 1.6 million samples in an attempt to suppress the spread.

The latest surge began after Nanjing airport cleaners became infected, causing the outbreak to spread throughout the country. The new cases recorded on Tuesday have led to the highest level of cases recorded since January of this year, when the country saw 144 new cases and 126 domestic infections, most of which occurred in the northern regions. To enhance public confidence, authorities are working to quell this latest revival.
