Activate TigerNetID – Fort Hays State University
Important Note: This process will work best on a desktop or laptop computer (not a mobile device) using Firefox or Chrome.
You should activate your own TigerNetID. The Acceptable Use of Computing Resources Policy prohibits disclosing your password or using another person’s user account or password. This includes allowing your parent to activate your account.
Parents: allow your student to activate his/her own account. Students are able to provide parents or other third parties access to grades and/or financial information myFHSU worklet in Workday.
ACTIVATE TIGERNETID
Choose “Student” or “Faculty/Staff” to view instructions on how to activate your TigerNetID.
You can use the password reset portal to see if you’ve activated your TigerNetID:
- Go to password.fhsu.edu.
- Enter your TigerNetID username. Click Next.
- If 3 security questions come up, your TigerNetID has been activated. You can close the window without taking further action.
- If you see an error message, you haven’t activated your TigerNetID and need to follow the directions at www.fhsu.edu/activate
STEP 1: MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR USERNAME AND YOUR 8-CHARACTER FHSU ID NUMBER.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR SECURITY QUESTIONS.
When you click the link at the end of this step, you will be prompted to enter your TigerNetID username and initial TigerNetID password. Read these instructions first so you know what to enter.
Enter the following information in the authentication window that pops up.
- Username: TigerNetID username
- Internet Explorer users: Enter your full FHSU email address into the box (
us******@ma**.edu
).
- Internet Explorer users: Enter your full FHSU email address into the box (
- Password: Your initial password is: FHSU ID + first three letters of your birth month (1st letter capitalized). Example: 12345678Mar
- Do not save this password in your browser (you’ll be changing it soon).
- Click Log In or OK on the authentication window
- Click Next
- Enter your initial TigerNetID password again. This is the same password you just used.
Now that you’ve read the directions, go to passwordreg.fhsu.edu and follow the prompts. When you are finished, you will receive a message saying your security question registration is complete. Click Continue to move to the next step.
STEP 3: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD.
- Click the Continue button after setting your security questions, and you’ll be sent to the Self-Service Password Portal at password.fhsu.edu.
- Enter your TigerNetID username, correctly answer 3 of your security questions, and choose a new password.
- Your new password must follow these rules:
- Must contain 10 or more characters
- Must not contain your first name, last name, or username
- Must be different from your previous 12 passwords
- Must contain 3 of these 4 items:
- UPPERCASE LETTERS
- Lowercase Letters
- Numbers
- Special characters (such as ; : ‘ ” + = – _ [ ] . > , )
- You will receive a message when your password has been changed.
- From now on, you will use your TigerNetID password when signing in to Workday
STEP 4: CLICK FINISH
Read the rest of the directions on your screen.
FACULTY/STAFF TIGERNETID ACTIVATION INSTRUCTIONS
You should activate your own TigerNetID. The Acceptable Use of Computing Resources Policy prohibits disclosing your password or using another person’s user account or password. This includes allowing someone else to activate your account.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A DEVICE AND WEB BROWSER.
- Use Firefox or Chrome. Internet Explorer is not recommended.
- Use a desktop or laptop computer. Mobile devices such as phones and tablets are not recommended.
- If you’re on campus: Follow these directions from a desktop or a docked laptop. If you only have wireless devices, follow these directions from your FHSU-provided laptop while connected to TigerNetFacultyStaff.
- If you’re off campus: You can use any device to follow these directions, but additional steps may be necessary on FHSU-provided laptops (steps are listed after you change your password). Disconnect from the VPN before proceeding (if applicable).
STEP 2: DISCONNECT FROM TIGERNETFACULTYSTAFF WIRELESS.
Disconnect any phones, tablets, or other mobile devices currently connected to the TigerNetFacultyWireless, except the device you’re using to follow these directions (if applicable).
If any of your devices are currently off campus, make sure to disconnect them from TigerNetFacultyStaff before bringing them back to campus.
STEP 3: CHOOSE YOUR SECURITY QUESTIONS.
When you click the link at the end of this step, you will be prompted to enter your TigerNetID username and initial TigerNetID password. Read these instructions first so you know what to enter.

- If you’ve previously activated: Enter your current TigerNetID password in the password field
- Don’t know your FHSU ID or TigerNetID username? Use the TigerNetID Look Up tool
- Click Log In or OK on the authentication window
- Click Next
