Fortnite Class Action Refund | How much will the refunds be?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is currently sending out refunds to consumers who were tricked by Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, into making unwanted in-app purchases.
This is part of a settlement reached in December 2022, where Epic Games was ordered to pay $245 million to resolve allegations of using deceptive design practices.
Who is eligible for a refund?
You may be eligible if you or your child:
- Were charged for in-game items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022.
- Made unauthorized charges on your credit card between January 2017 and November 2018.
- Had your account locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after disputing charges with your credit card company.
How do you apply for a refund?
If you believe you’re eligible, you can still submit a claim online at www.ftc.gov/fortnite. The deadline to file a claim is January 10, 2025.
How much will the refunds be?
The amount of individual refunds will vary depending on several factors, including the number of people who submit claims. The average refund for the first round of payments was $114.
When will the refunds be paid out?
The FTC has already started sending out refunds. The first round of payments, totaling over $72 million, was sent out in December 2024. More disbursements are expected to follow.
