The Royal Mail  FeetoPay card will have three methods of payment listed: Online at http://www.royalmail.com/feetopay. By post. Please follow the instructions on the card.

You’ve received a Fee to Pay card from Royal Mail. This means an item addressed to you has arrived with insufficient postage paid.

Here’s what you need to know:

Why you received it:

  • Insufficient postage: The sender didn’t put enough stamps on the item.
  • No postage paid: The sender may have forgotten to attach a stamp altogether.
  • Counterfeit stamp: The stamp used might be fake.
  • Non-barcoded stamp: Older stamps without barcodes are no longer valid and require extra postage.

What to do:

You have a few options to pay the fee and receive your item:

  • Pay online: This is the quickest and easiest way. Go to [invalid URL removed] and enter the barcode number from your card. You’ll need a debit or credit card.
  • Pay by phone: Call Royal Mail and pay over the phone using your debit or credit card.
  • Pay at a Royal Mail delivery office: Take the card to your local delivery office and pay in cash or by card.
  • Return to sender: If you don’t want to pay the fee, you can write “Return to Sender” on the card and put it back in your mailbox.

Important Note:

  • Scams: Be aware of scams that mimic Fee to Pay cards. Genuine cards will always have a barcode and clear instructions on how to pay through official Royal Mail channels. Never give out personal information or bank details in response to a suspicious card or email. If in doubt, contact Royal Mail directly to verify.

Fee amount:

The fee amount depends on the size of the item and the amount of underpaid postage. It’s usually a few pounds. The exact amount will be printed on the Fee to Pay card.

Why is there a fee?

• You’ve been sent an item and not enough postage was paid
• You have sent an international item where not enough postage was paid
• You’ve been sent an item from outside the UK, and there’s a Customs charge to pay

How can I pay the fee?

• Online – using a debit /credit card or Paypal account. This is the most convenient and quickest way to pay

• By post. Please follow the instructions on the card

How long do I have to pay the fee?

We’ll hold your item for 18 days, after which it’ll be returned to the sender.

If your item has a Customs charge, we’ll hold it for 21 calendar days before returning it to the sender.

If you are paying the fee online, we recommend you pay at least two days before the item is due to be returned to the sender.
