Garfield residents are being evacuated as police respond to a “active shooting situation” in the area. Pittsburgh Police say shots have been fired at the intersection of Broad Street and North Mathilda Street in the 4800 block.
When deputies arrived to serve an eviction notice, the suspect allegedly became agitated and opened fire, according to the sheriff’s office.
Shortly after 11 a.m., public safety officials posted on social media, warning people to stay away from the area.
“Hundreds of rounds” were probably fired.
Pittsburgh Police SWAT has arrived and is now in charge of the situation and the investigation. Two police drones were reportedly shot down by the suspect.

The area around North Mathilda Street and Broad Street (4800 block) is now closed to traffic. Shots are still being fired, according to a social media post from Pittsburgh Public Safety. Please stay out of the area till further notice.
According to Action News 4 of Pittsburgh, the suspect has opened fire on cops and destroyed two police drones.
The Allegheny County SWAT team was among the dozens of police units who rushed to the scene. The State Police of Pennsylvania were also called in.
On X, Pittsburgh Police posted: “Officers are starting to evacuate people from the houses in the 4800 block of Broad St.” Please stay indoors, call 911, and give your exact location and/or street address. The officers who enter will assist you in finding a secure location.
