Día Internacional de la Mujer | Reflexiones para repensar y reubicar el significado del Día Internacional de la Mujer
Each year on March 8th, Copenhagen, Denmark has hosted the International Conference of Socialist Women to remember the fight for women’s equality, which has been ongoing since 1911.
The collective consciousness of humanity stores the accumulated memories of women’s oppression and discrimination throughout history. It manifests itself in a set of false assumptions about women’s worth, confidence, identity, and place in society. It’s something that’s been passed down through the ages.
Judgments, predispositions, perceptions, and interpretations of reality are formed based on what is inherited, modelled, seen, or learnt; this includes the assumption that women are sentimental, fickle or irrational, weak or sensitive. The truth is that males, like women, can experience feelings of sentimentality, irrationality, flippancy, weakness, or sensitivity.
Efforts to alter the cultural and social norms that enable prejudice and inequality must be made immediately and by everyone. All of society must be invested in the process of recognising and appreciating individuals for the unique roles and contributions they make as human beings in all aspects of life.
