A powerful cold front will approach today, bringing considerably cooler air (and a fall-like feel) over the weekend following considerable warmth and humidity.
As a line of heavy thunderstorms approaches into the area, the National Weather Service is warning residents in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties to take shelter if they are outside. Hail up to a half-inch thick and wind gusts up to 50 mph are forecast.
Updated at 11:30 a.m.: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Dearborn, Ohio, and Switzerland counties in Indiana, as well as Boone and Gallatin counties in Kentucky.
A severe thunderstorm was positioned 9 miles south of Dillsboro, travelling east at 25 mph with possible wind gusts of 60 mph. Trees and electricity wires are likely to be damaged.

Interstate 71 in Kentucky between mile marks 62 and 63 could be impacted, according to the weather service.
Early morning clouds will give way to partly sunny skies on Friday. With a passing thunderstorm late morning north and early afternoon centre and south, it will be hot and humid (early to mid afternoon right near the coast). With a westerly breeze, highs will be in the 70s in the north and the 80s in the south. As temperatures dip into the 50s overnight with a westerly breeze, the humidity will begin to diminish later this afternoon and evening.
The weekend will bring much cooler weather, with highs in the 60s!

Saturday will be partly sunny, with a northerly breeze and a chance of showers.
Showers are now possible for Father’s Day. Mostly cloudy skies, with highs in the 60s once more.
More storms may be on the way after the devastating storms that ripped across the region earlier this week.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday, and it was in effect until 3 p.m.
The following are the areas that will be monitored:
In Indiana, the counties of Dearborn, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland; in Kentucky, the counties of Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Lewis, Mason, Own, Pendleton, and Robertson; and in Ohio, the counties of Adams, Brown, Clermont, Hamilton, and Scioto.
It’s possible to see frequent lightning, gusts up to 65 mph, and isolated hail up to a quarter size.
