After Scotty Pippen Jr. fouled out with 22 points left, Vanderbilt held on for a 75-74 victory over Arkansas in the Commodores’ SEC opener on Tuesday night.

Arkansas’ JD Notae missed a game-winning 3-point attempt with 1.2 seconds remaining. When the Commodores had a one-point advantage with nine seconds left and Tyrin Lawrence standing over the line, he missed both of his free throw attempts.

Arkansas’ Chris Lykes hit one of two free throws with 15 seconds left to cut the lead to 75-74 for the Razorbacks. All 31 of Lykes’ free throws in the final three minutes of games this season had been successful. The offensive rebound after Lykes’ miss was kicked to Jaxson Robinson, who missed an open 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.

After Pippen fouled out with 41.5 seconds left, Vandy’s (9-4, 1-0) final points came from Rodney Chatman, who went 1 for 2 from the foul line with 26 seconds left.

Arkansas (10-4, 0-2) entered the game with a seven-game winning streak and an 11-game win streak in the series. Third-year head coach Jerry Stackhouse had his first win in the Southeastern Conference.

Arkansas’ Stanley Umude tallied 28 points.

Vanderbilt’s Pippen Jr. scored 13 points in the first half despite Arkansas’ 62.5 percent shooting (15 of 24).
