Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network : iPhone Error Fix
This is a common error when travelling for whatever reason. This could be due to a poor connection to the wireless network, but it’s more likely that the Apple iPhone’s settings are out of calibration. Consider one of the following fixes.
Firstly, ensure you have the latest Carrier Update (with WiFi connected open Settings>General>About) and accept a carrier update if one appears on screen.
Next, turn off your iPhone.
Remove Sim Card.
Turn on iPhone and connect with WiFi.
Go into Settings>General>Reset and Reset Network Settings.
Turn the phone OFF.
Insert Sim Card.
Turn the phone ON.
That worked for me after trying EVERYTHING including a full restore via iTunes which is a long process.
Good luck.
Fix 1 – Clear Profiles
- Open “Settings” > “General” > “VPN” (if it exists).
- Look for an option called “Profiles“. If it doesn’t exist, try Fix 2.
- Clear anything you have listed in the “Profiles” section.
- Power down, then restart the phone.
Fix 2 – Reset Networking
- Open “Settings” from the Home screen.
- Tap “General“.
- Select “Reset“.
- Choose “Reset Network Settings“.
- Power down the iPhone by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button on the top of the device, then sliding the “Off” slider.
- Wait about 10 seconds, then power the iPhone back on.
- Open a web browser and see if things are operating as expected.
Fix 3 – Fill in APN Info
- Open “Settings” from the Home screen.
- Depending on your version of the iOS, go to the following path:
- “Cellular” > “Cellular Data Options” > “Cellular Network“.
- “Mobile Data” > “Mobile Data Options” > “Mobile Data Network“.
- Type the word “internet” for both APN categories (“Mobile Data” & “Personal Hotspot“)
You can also try resetting the APN data using the “Reset Settings” option on the “Cellular/Mobile Data Network” screen.
